If you're wondering what I'm doing up at 02:50 in a morning I was just wakened by the sound of my car alarm.
Some kind soul has come up my drive and put a brick through the passenger side window of the Viano in an attempt to get into it. They ran at the alarm going off and didn't get anything (the car is still locked) but there is glass everywhere. I've called the police but dont hold out much hope of anyone turning up.
Right now I feel sick but I have to get autoglas here to make the car secure.

what do they get out of doing it?

I'm at work - Gritting!

Well, I'll be here a while, I cant secure the car as the window is gone and if I leave it locked the alarm goes off every few minutes. If I leave it unlocked... (not going to happen)

I've tried every auto glass company in yellow pages and they all say they have 24 hour cover but strangely enough "not in your area tonight sir." "No-one available until 8:30am sir."

So I'm sat here watching the car and silencing the alarm as it goes off. It's going to be a long night

Sorry to hear about this, i echo the others comments.

Can you not block the window up with something until the morning / if this is possible on the Viano switch off the motion detection.

Well, some good news, just had a return call from National Windscreens and they'll have someone with me in 30 minutes.

No sign of the police though, maybe I'll get a crime number tomorrow......

You may get a crime number, but you will not get any "policework" done.
In fact, if the police do turn up, they will spend more time asking for your full name, date of birth etc, then run it through the police computer to see if you are wanted for anything. Thats modern "policework" nowadays.
Unless anyone turns themself in, petty crime goes unanswered.

So sorry to hear this Ray - what an absolute nightmare!

Sorry to hear that Ray.

Funnily enough my friend had her car broken into during the week, radio and CDs stolen. Police turned up a few hours after reporting, had a chat, then scenes of crime turned up and took some dusting and examined the car for samples etc. My friend was then told unlikely of course to recover the radio etc but given some crime advice; then had a call that evening from a different policeperson who enquired if she was alright, and informed her that the PCSOs had spent the day asking neighbours if anything strange was seen or heard during the time the car was said to be broken into.

I find all that strangely helpful from the police; a shame consistent approach isn't given to all though isn't it

Very sorry to hear that. :(

Some moron threw a brick at my V140 a few years ago, smashed the double glazed side window, 750 quid .

So, I fully sympathise!! Hope the car got secured in the end and that no further damage will have been done.

Any CCTV around your area?

Sorry to hear about your bad news. I thought that the thread heading was very restrained in the circumstances.

Hi Ray,
what can we say? I know that we all feel your rage and the anger. Did the police turn up and if so how long did it take for them to respond?

I cringe every time I hear a politician tell us how crime is down and police numbers are up! We are being taken for idiots. Crime is not down, crime has won the war and criminals laugh at the ineffective so called police that we now pay for. Usually these idiots run off for a short distance and then hide up. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out, plus they will usually have traces of glass either in their clothing or more common on their trainers, but we are told by our under worked and over paid police that there is little chance of catching these type of offenders. I will simply say there is NO CHANCE if these folks do not make an effort.

Hopefully the cost of repair is not going to be to much but will you pay out of your own pocket?

Regards
John

Comiserations, hope you get it sorted quickly.

Apparently I have nothing to worry about, just had a call from the police, and I didn't get a crime number, I got a bloody occurence number. No wonder the crime figures are down if crime has been downgraded to a mere occurence.

And yes Robert, they were too busy fighting drunks in the town centre and said as much.

I did get a new glass fitted at 06:00 this morning but I'll be vaccing out glass for a while.

Oh and thanks to the mod for altering the title, my anger must have made me spell TWIT differently...

No, the spelling was fine, it certainly got the message across, Twit does not.
