Some you win........560 SEL

Well, took a leap of faith and bought a 560 SEL unseen off of E Bay, because it "felt right".

It was delivered today, and am I a happy man!

Some of you might have seen it on E Bay, '89 W126 560 SEL in smoke silver, 108k, FMBSH, 1 elderly owner from new - who couldn't park hence several scuffs and a dent or 2, plus of course rusty arches x 4.

Took it for a spin just now and it drives superbly! So much better than my old 300SE W126, and that was good one! All the gadgets work, and there are plenty!

£1000 for the car with 12 months MOT, another £1000 on the body and it will be a superb car. In my eyes a complete bargain, although I know some of my friends think I'm nuts.

Glad I gambled.......this time!

Nice one.

As many of you will know, I have a soft-spot for the w126's. For me the ribbed lower cladding at the car's launch dated it. I much prefer the facelift ones.

As an aside, did all 560's have sls as standard, or was it an option?

To be honest I've not tried any more than getting it in the garage, and as it was dark it went in forwards! I clobbered my standard length W126 on a gate post which was stupid as they are actually ok to park, the visibility is good, and the lock is German Taxi tight, however, the mirrors are not as good as new cars which is really the only downside, and of course no parktronic.

Does anyone know if the front wings are the same on all other W126's as I notice the tyres are wider, and the arch lips look a little wider, might be just me though.

Thats is one nice car.

I remember driving my dad's 280 SE all over town and my friends and their parents used to look at me with envy. I was driving well before I got on a plane for the first time and driving the W126 was the closest experience I had to flying.

Put the car in D and the bottom went lower and it was ready for take off! One day when I get rich, have a house with 4 garages or more and bottomless pockets I may just get myself a W126 for old times sake.
