C230 Komp manual / Black
Hi Peeps
new to this forum which is what I need to easy the pain I am feeling at the moment.
Vehicle : 1998 c 230 komp /Manual/ Obsidian black

Last month while attempting to help out a friend, by going to pick them up for work as their car had broken down (BMW 325i) opportunity to convert,

I was travelling along the A 45 between Meridan and Birmingham at about 5.00
am. As they have been carrying out some road works for sometime (bridge construction and resurfacing) they had removed what poor lighting that existed and replaced it with temporary lighting which was non exsitant at that time of the morning. I am driving at about 45 - 50 mph when suddenly I notice large a u shaped (Best description for it at the time) obstruction in the middle of the outside lane,as my lights picked it up in the distance, as I manouvered the car to go around it, managed to get around ok but then lost control of the back end which fishtailed out hitting the kerb and catapulted the car in to the crash barrier on the opposite side taking out all off the front end, and in the process took out the front passenger wheel and rear bumper and lights, the suprising thing is the air bag did not go off.

Very luckily managed to walk away without a scratch. Just deeply hurt, still suffering with sleepless nites, mood swings, needed to share my grief.

Coming back to the obstruction some Muppet had left a front bumper lying across the the outside lane,I just happend to be the casualty, no number plate attached , just my luck !!!

Welcome to the forum . . . sorry to hear of your misfortune - i am familiar with that stretch of road.

A testament to the build quality and safety of these cars is the fact that you walked away relatively unhurt - others on here can back that up with similar experiences.

Hopefully it won't put you off future Merc ownership, even though it puts a whole new perspective on driving in general once you have experienced something like this.

Hope you get over it soon, and feel free to join in with the chat on here in the meantime !

S.

Thanx for the welcome sym...

what I didn't share with you was the fact that the car is undergoing surgery at the moment and the completion date can't come quick enough.

A testament to the build quality and safety, I would not consider putting my family in anything else, other than a Merc.

Welcome and sorry for you hassles at the mo....

It sounds like a fine time to go the AMG bumper upgrade..... :bannana:

I thought I was the only one that liked the manual, what is this? not many about or does every one prefer autos

I think they got bad press and most people were too scared to have them. I know the auto is good, but the percentage of manuals is really surprising.

But as we know, the manual is not bad at all. I think with the supercharged 4 pot engine it's a real good combination -

Great through the gears flat out, excellent around town (I frequently just do 2nd - 4th changes to save leg work) and floor it in 5th at about 70mph and feel the massive pull - without the chance of a horrible downchange.

Make sure you get some pictures in the Gallery if you can.

You`re right about that Graham.I think the 230 k engine with the auto `box changes down too readily when you want to just overtake and just use the torque these engines have, thats one of the reasons i normally drive it in the W setting.Even then you have to be carefull with the throttle to avoid a downchange,in `S` it really is just too sensitive.
