hi sorry mate, I thought as I am after a new one then I would go for a smaller/slimmer one than the Garmin so I can take it around with me on foot.
True it is a bit of a brick...:D

That's what's good about the NavMan. It's 12cm x 7cm x 2.5cm with a built-in antenna

Just be careful with the screens on Navman units.

I've witnessed a couple of failures recently, fairly early on after purchase. The problem was not with the screen failing per se (could happen on any LCD display unit), more with Navman's complete lack of customer service, and absolute lack of intent to honour their warranty.

In both cases they tried to claim it was user abuse. The first unit was 4 months old, but in pristine condition. The second was brand new out of the box, failed on first usage. So where exactly was the abuse they claimed?
All attempts at reasonable dialogue with them were refused, persisting with their claims that it was user damage.

In the case of the 2nd unit, they only repaired it after an independant assessment and threat of a lawsuit. The owner of the 1st unit gave up in the end, but PC World (the retailer they'd bought from) were good enough to do a substantial chunk of goodwill on a new TomTom unit for them.

I wouldn't say that the TomTom was any better in terms of reliability, but at least they sort it out with minimal hassle when it does go wrong!

Well that was a no goer, none instock at £99, can get them for £129 but if I'm spending that much I may just go for the tom tom one..hmmmmm

I am tempted by the Navman but the customer service issues are a bit off putting

Cant find the navman on the maplin web site, is it instore only?

Mark - sorry to hear of your woes - why can't people just leave what's not theirs alone.

That's why I have an 'Old' looking APS 30 in my vehicle. It doesn't attracked those quick bucklers... They think is't only a Radio head.

But I know you feeling as I lost some very nice Audio (Panasonic Sentrade) gear in the '80's and had about 2500 Gilders (about 1200 Euro) damage on the car (250TD).

well the window is now fixed and the new sat nav is in and working for the grand total of £230 so cant really complain too much, could have been a lot worse....still thinking of hooking my car doors up to the mains when I leave it grrrrrr

Good man! I hope it doesn't let you down. Mine's been just fine, so I haven't had to deal with Navman's Customer Service.

I have, however had to deal with Tomtom in the past, and for that reason I would never, ever buy another thing from them. If you have any kind of a problem, their automatic assumption is that you stole the unit, or bought it secondhand, and therefore you don't deserve their help. They made me madder, and treated me sh!ttier than any other 'service' department of any other company. Ever. And I'm with NTL....

Cheers for the point in the right direction PJ, impressed so far but have a 400 mile round trip tomorrow so I shall see how it goes (already downloaded the camera positions which I could not do on my old unit;))

I got sat nav free with my last phone upgrade(T-mobile). Works great and no chance of leaving it in the car and getting nicked again. Even came with bluetooth GPS receiver..
