Just bought a set of AMG IV 17 inch wheels for my w209 clk which has standard 16" merc alloys

standard 16" wheels - front tyres 205/55 zr 16
rear tyres 225/55 zr 16
not sure what the offset is for these..

amg 17" alloys - Front alloys -7.5j x 17 h2 et 47 - tyres 225/45 zr 17
rear alloys - 8.5j x 17 h2 et 58 - tyres245/40 zr 17

now, i took off the 16" wheel and put the 17" alloy but there was a gap as the bolts are too long, so do I need shorter bolts or spacers??

Shorter bolts are the safer option.
Do the wheels turn okay for clearance and do they clear the calipers okay

You stated that you were unsure of the ET on the original wheels. You will find this stamped on the inside of the wheel. You should ensure the wheels that you are fitting are within 3mm of the original wheels for which the car is designed for.

Spacers can cause loads of handling issues so i would say shorter bolts assuming there's not a huge difference between the wheels off-sets.

Thankyou all, spacers are going to cost around £150 as the alloys are for w204 model - so i have decided to sell these, see my latest post

cheers
