 Managed to replace my Spark Plugs today.

MB told me that they changed these, during a warranty job 10 months ago, (lack of power) at 51K miles, but I have my doubts about this. Car done almost 58K now.

Removed engine covers, then the coils, and used the long open ended spanner to lever off the leads. Some were very tight. Next came the removal of the 12 plugs, with an assortment of extensions, UJs, reducers, switching between 1/2 and 3/8 drives and a very useful flex handle stubby ratchet> The rear plugs were awkward, but got there in the end.

(Unless you are confident at car DIY, I would leave this job to an Indie. If you don't know what your doing and something goes wrong, you could end up in a right mess ! )

Plugs that came out were Bosch, new plugs from MB were NGK and these had a "Pointed" electrode.

Before refitting the new plugs, I attached a rubber hose to the end of the hoover, with masking tape, (see photo) sucked out a lot of muck from the plug holes, to ensure that nothing got trapped between the plug washer and the bore. I also cleaned all copper contacts in the leads with electrical cleaning spray.

Regretfully, I damaged one of the leads while I was at it, but to be honest, they all look as if they need replaced anyway.

Can anyone tell me the best place to buy a new set without going to MB ?

Refitted all plugs by hand, before giving them the final nip up with the ratchet.

Took car for a drive. Difference in accelleration is tremendous for a C240. ....I thought that I was in a new car ! ............Again, thanks to all forum members who gave me the initial advice. :bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

Took some pics.

I would like to suggest that the plugs have been out before. I am not convinced that the right ones were refitted looking at the photo.

Good work and pictures yaz.
