Does anyone have a link to a guide to changing Spark Plugs on a 98' CLK 320?

Need to book my car in for a service and the garage want an extra £200 to do the spark plugs, just wondered how difficult this would be to change my self?!?

Car was last changed at 55,000 and now sits on 115,000 miles so i think there due to be replaced

Cheers

I've just had a quick word with the lads in our workshop. The time for these is 1.6-1.8 hours. Apparently they can be a bit of a pig to do. Theres 12 spark plugs and they can be a tight squeeze.

How good are you with tools?

I think there was one person on here that had a go himself and it took him 5 hours.

im pretty handy with tools, i found the plugs so may just ask the garage to fit the ones i supply from Euro Car Parts (£3 cheaper each)

Like everything its not too bad if you have the correct tools, The hard bit is getting the leads off and on without wrecking them. I have just done a friends E320 it took me 2 1/2 hours, it will be quicker next time :D .

Good luck ...

I had mine done by Olly ( Black C55 ) and after watching him do it , i wouldn't even attempt it myself .

Coil packs off , engine covers off , air cleaner hoses off , etc ... the back cylinders are the tough ones ....

Done mine E430 and its not hard use the open end of a 17mm spanner as a lever to pop the plug caps off then its simply remove and replace the plugs, there is a special tool but i was to tight to buy it:) again yank site geezer called ohlord! does it for $25

I just used a plug socket 3/8 drive and a small extension and a wobbly drive for some of the tighter ones this is all sealey cheap tools as all my good stuff is at work.

Have a look at the yank sites few posts on there.

Took me no more than 2 hours max on my drive at home.

Wifes are due next service and i will be doing them as well 2001 c320.

If you do it yourself not only do you save money but you learn more about your car and as you know knowledge is power:D .

Ps the yanks are **** scared of changing them also look at the prices the garges are trying to charge them:eek:
