Never seen the expanding type before, interesting idea

Good idea because you would be backing it out rather than winding it in, so less chance of swarf getting in the bore.

A number of the photos seem to show it assembled back to front - surely the knurled end should be the opposite end to the threads, as in fact a few of the photos show. Shouldn't it?

I bought a 1957 Triumph tiger cub (200cc) in 1967 . As a 15 year old I used to ride it around the back lanes and side roads until the spark plug blew out . Took the cylinder head to local motorcycle dealer and had a helicoil insert supplied and fitted for £3

Thats fine .But as a rule threads get damaged while fitting the spark plug. So most of the damage is on the first 1/4 of the thread , so this tool would be ideal .But after all youir head was off so no worry of swarf getting inside the engine . The tool can be used insitue .
