I contacted mercedes about removing the base of my rear seats, I was told that only the workshop can do this with a special tool. I've tried removing it myself but can find any buttons or latches to remove it so I can install my TV tuner. Has anybody tried to remove the back seat and managed to figure out the procedure?

its a pain to find the latches. You have to feel along the base of the seat, they are there!

Found Something

Do the latches pull, push or is there buttons which need to be pressed. I have found some holes which feel like they need some special tool to fit into. Feel like square cut outs.

As the others say, there is no special tool, MB dealer protecting it's own revenue stream :-)

The seat base lifts from the front edge. There is a catch in each corner, which operates by pushing somewhere on the front lower edge near the corner. Pull gently up on the seat corner and start prodding at the leather until it pops up. Once youve seen how the catch works once, then you can operate all of those seat latches!

Found Latches

I took your advice and also rang a independant Mercedes dealership off the A3 nr.Hindhead that just recently opened and he was happy to instruct me where to find these latches, he even offered to get one of his mechanics to take a look if I was passing though and had no luck with the matter.

Could this be one of the Mercedes dealers we've all been looking for & thought never existed?

I am going to take step by step pictures on the TV tuner installation.
Should be interesting on what is included in factory fitted TV pre-wiring.
