Hi guys

I was looking for some info and unfortunately couldnt find any reference to compatibility of engines between sprinter mk1 FL ( 2001-2006) and c class w203/e class w210.

Basically I have 55 plate sprinter 313 cdi crewcab MWB low roof with gone piston rings. Its high mileage engine (240k) and rebuilding it will be not cheap.

I know that OM611 is fitted to C and E class, Vito and PT cruiser. Question - will bare engine fit my sprinter. Obviously manifolds will be swapped as well as injectors and sump. Will block and cylinder head fit?

Will be glad to get any feedback.

Anyone???
I recall a chat long time ago between some mechanics that they were swapping c220 om611 to vito mk1 and I know that vito mk1 and sprinter use same engine and are interchangeable. Unfortunately I dont have contact with these guys anymore to ask details.

Additionally I know the vito in question and I know it had engine replaced due to getting into big puddle and sucking water in cylinders while running. That vito changed 2 owners since and I have no way of tracing this info.

Managed to find reference to one guy swapping many moons ago OM611 from w210 to 2004 sprinter and results were not that good. Reved more easily but had a feel of lower torque at normal driving revs. Would it be due to difference in cams/injectors/pistons ?? I would use my original manifolds and injectors anyway. Could even swap cams.

Any Ideas?

Well considering I didn't get any replies will have to find out the hard way... just got pt crueser for parts and will see how it will go. First visual comparison is not good as vacuum and high pressure diesel pump on cruiser sit on the back of the head, not in front like on any other mercedes fitted with om611. Might need to use my cylinder head.

Hi,
Do not get too disheartened because you had no replies to your post about Sprinter engine swaps. There are, very few folks on here with a Sprinter, and a few recent posts about engine swaps, which you should be able to search for, have not come to any great conclusion.
You are as you have discovered on your own on this, but the outcome will be interesting, so I hope you come back and tell us what happened on your search to replace your 311 engine.
The problem with Sprinter Engines is that they are generally very reliable, and last for 200/300k miles easily, so finding a low mileage used one for cheap money just doesn't happen, and just re ringing an engine can cost a fortune, let alone new shells and gaskets.
I did not know that the PT Cruiser had a Mercedes engine in it, so thats a good find, and I hope you can get it working in your Sprinter. Your results will no doubt help others.
I used to get some bits from a Sprinter dismantler in Stoke on Trent, he was helpful when I wanted a gearbox and some new rear springs, but that was a long time ago now.
Have you had a look on this site, they may be helpful, specialising in just Sprinters. There may be someone there that has been down the path you are choosing. Hope you get it sorted.
