and costs?

thanks

I get it from time to time on my C-Class when somthing has knocked out the sensor under the passenger front seat - worth looking there 1st.

hi thanks for the advice but where abouts do i look on the passenger seat...

Check your PM

If its not that, It could be a faulty sensor (or worse!)

If I remember right, the original 211 e-class seat wiring loom wears on/around the connector that connects the wiring loom to the seat (as it flexes whenever seat is moved) and then you get this error. (i.e its common)

Unhelpfully, I can't remember the fix or anything more about it.

the only thing the instrument cluster read was as follows:

SRS
RESTRAINT SYSTEM DEFECTIVE VISIT WORKSHOP!

no other codes....

I was led to believe that it wouldn't clear down even if the fault was cleared - had to be done with STAR - seems that this may not be the case !

Hi I fixed my SRS error problem, the fault was in the sensor on the passinger seat,, I bought a box on Ebay a occupancy emulator this works fine and makes the SRS computer believe there is always a passinger present so all airbags are armed all the time..... You cannot put a baby in the front seat but only a stupid fool would anyway!!! Easy cheap fix!!!!

I can't say that disabling any of the car's safety features is something I would warm up to.... not would my insurer.

I had the same problem and also came across the emulator you mentioned... but opted to have the fault properly fixed and Olly PCS replaced the Front Seat Occupancy Sensor with an original MB part all for a very reasonable price.

Incidentally, the fault can be confirmed by using any code reader that can read MB-specific codes such as the Autel Maxidiag EU702, i.e. you don't need STAR to read and clear this code. It will tell you exactly which sensor is playing up.

The fix does not disable any safety feature, in fact it inproves the SRS system by having it switch on all the time.

I had this same problem, the fault was not the sensor, but the wire attached to it! This is a three core cable, and one of the cores had fractured mid-way along its length. I simply cut the cable near the sensor and near the plug, soldered in some high quality flexible multi-core cable and solved the problem. Zero cost apart from the time to remove the seat and seat base cover.

Bought it on Ebay via Lattvia............. works well ,,,, switches the SRS on all the time instead of turning the passenger side on and off,,, faction of the price .. Did not fancy taking the seat to pieces

I would not call it easy and cheap. Reconfiguring the SRS system for no seat sensor would be cheaper and easier. Unless the car faces and accident with no front passenger, where this cheap fix (either of the two) becomes extremely expensive.
