Car
c220
Ok car is an a140, i had a lazy starter (valeo) that would only click or wind over slowly when booster pack was attached.
Replaced it with another valeo starter from breakers tested before fitting and worked fine.
Now fitted to car, new starter wont do anything, have looked for starter relay but there isnt one there.
If i cross over the the starter wires its winds over fine.
I checked power going to both wires and am getting battery voltage.
does anyone have any suggestions :wallbash:

Are you saying that if you apply current directly to the starter's contacts it does work?

And if it does, will the engine actually start?

If so, and if an auto, I would check the inhibitor switch (preventing the car from being started when not in Park).

Yes that's it but its a manual.
I plan to check to wiring again tomorrow, hoping for something simple but though id ask to see if any one had this problem before.

Sounds like a broken engine earth strap to me. You can test this by running a jump lead from the engine block to the - negative battery terminal.:thumb:

Follow my advice in this thread and post back your findings, and see if we can come up with a resolution.

No point guessing or throwing parts at it :)

found that if i cross over the purple/white wire beside battery to positive it started the car. so have run a new wire to the ignition switch so it operates as normal

high current pass through the earth strap connection biside the engine oil draining plug result in bolt getting corroded. you need to remove the bolt, clean all connections with a rough sand paper then swap the bolt with the one on top of the draining plug, it's identical. good luck
