not sure if this should be electrical or engine!

Had a little problem the last few times i drove the car.

I had just driven 60 odd miles then i stopped the car and turned off the ignition. i then went to start the car and it started then immediatly after a few secs went dead, after this all it would do is turn over! i left it for 5 mins and tried again, and it was fine!

ive had 2 incidents since where it would just turn over and not start, leave it for a few mins and started like normal!

weird!

I thought it was the key so i started using the spare, but the same thing happened! Ive been told it could be a sticking fuel pump reley.

anyone here got any ideas? would be appreciated.. Last thing i want with a new baby due in the next few weeks is a car that wont start at that vital moment :)

It could be something like the fuel pump relay, the immobiliser or the crank position sensor.
I'd go for the sensor and change it anyway as they're cheap.

Agree with Dieselman, try the crankshaft sensor. Its a very common prob on them 6cyl engines.

99% crank angle sensor.

Mine went a few months back - exactly the same symptoms.

IIRC stealership charged approx £180.00  including star diagnostic. You could take a chance and just get them to change sensor without doing the diagnostic (thereby saving about £30) however the fault code would still be retained in the ECU.

Good luck!

a little update,

I finally got the crankshaft position sensor changed last month, only dove the car a few times since thought everything was ok till last night, drove 60 od miles and back, parked the car up front to unload, then went to start it... and it just kept turning over, left it overnight.. still the same this morning!

later on in the afternoon, pulled the fuel pump relay out and gave it a tap and put it back, started first time.... relay will be ordered first thing i think....
