Hi I am having starting problems I think it is due to fuel syphoning back to the tank more so when parked facing up hill. can anyone help me solve this problem please.

Also can anyone tell me how many filters are in the fuel system the car is a mercedes 250 turbo deisel estate 1998/99
many thanks
Steve

There are 2 fuel filters,

The metal can, and the prefilter next to it in the top of the fuel filter housing.

With regards to the fuel running back, you will probably need to replace the clear fuel pipes, as the orings on these perish and let air in.

on the c250, there are 6 clear hoses and i would also get the oring for the stop solonoid.

Hope this helps

EDIT

Also, if you do change the fuel filter, (the big one) make sure you fill it with diesel before fitting, this will help the car start.

Thats great advice if this does not cure the problem should I fit a one way valve on the flexable pipe that comes out of the tank or even and eletric pump because I am having to resort to easy start quite often cheers

If your having to use easy start, I would also check your glowplugs.

Does the glowplug light stay on after started?

You could try the one way valve, but fingers crossed it should just be the orings on the clear hoses and stop solonoid. ( It was on mine)

If you are delicate, you could get away with just getting the orings rather than the whole pipes, but they are brittle so i opted for replacing the whole lot.

It makes it alot easier to remove the inlet manifold to acces the pipes so I took that oppurtunity to replace the 10 inlet manifold gaskets/seals too.

Hope that helps

Many thanks I will give it a go and let you know how I get on cheers
