Hi all,

I have a B Class W245 1.5 petrol Auto. Over the last few days when I’m driving the steering will turn to the left about 10-20 degrees, not immediately after a few seconds.

I’ve tried it on a “smooth” straight road and let go of the steering and the again it lefts abt 10-20 degrees to the left.

Yesterday I went to check the wheel alignment, the place I went have a very good reputation it does 4 wheel computerised alignment, the guy didn’t have to adjust anything the alignment was stop on the steering wheel was put on a clamp in a straight position, I asked the guy what it could be he said it could be a number of things and to take it to a garage.

The local garage that I normally use can’t book me in until next week.

I’ve checked the tyre pressure and they are all correct.

Has anyone had this issue?

Thank you for taking the time to look at my post.

Regards

1. First check tyre pressure are correct.
(I know it’s simple but you might not have considered it)

2. I had the same problem a few years ago and it caused a lot of head scratching.
It turned out one of the tyres had been damaged and had lost its shape, couldn’t see anything wrong with it but when I put the spare on it went away, so new tires were fitted and mystery was solved.
Hope this helps

Have you tried swapping front wheels from side to side to see if this influences the steering pull.

Thank you for the reply I will change the tyres around and see what happens, I will report my findings.

woops, yes good point checking if they are directional first, forgot that.

My old C class pulled to the left quite dramatically, more than usual. I took it into the Main Dealer, and the service manager politely explained about the camber in the road, as if I was a nine year old child.

I politely explained that even when I drive on the 'other' side of the road, it still pulled to the left, even though the camber was now on the opposite side, as if he was a three year old child.

He got the message and had the tracking reset.

Why do dealers try to pass on the chance to make some extra money. All they have to do is investigate, fix and charge. Not rocket science, is it.

I mean, us owners don't ask for much. All we want is for our cars to do as we ask, and not what they want to do. Simples.
