So I changed battery and couple of days ago and the stop start was working perfectly fine but now has stopped working any reason why thanks

What car?

Does the green light on the button go off?

Is the Eco symbol on the dash yellow?

Ignore silly comments about stop/start. Some people haven't progressed beyond the 20th century.

If you changed your battery recently, did you fit an AGM battery? AGM batteries are needed for their greater charge/discharge cycling capabilities and improved output.

If you have an AGM battery, then all the following conditions need to be met before stop/start will operate:
  • Engine and gearbox up to operating temperature
  • Car interior up to required temperature
  • Seat belt fastened
  • Parktronic not active
  • Footbrake pressed
  • Car not facing up steep hill
  • Doors and bonnet fully closed
  • Battery fully charged

C200 cdi blue efficiency se 2011. I don't have any start stop button it just works. The eco button on dash is yellow when car is stopped then changes colour as it moves off. Hope this information is helpful

Thanks for your informative response. I'll get back to you after trying your steps

Did you register the new battery to the vehicle as it is required on some cars , the car maybe thinks it still has the old battery fitted.

K

Just because the battery is new , don't assume it's at 100% charge . I had to charge my new Bosch battery for a few hours before stop start worked. Then the auxiliary capacitor pack became the issue . 🙄

Think yours is in the boot . A small 12v battery for stop start purposes . Maybe it needs a charge also.

I don't think this car's battery requires registration as it was working fine for a couple of days

I guess my starter motor is happy

Starter motors don't play much part in getting the car started once stopped , the modern day engine stops in a certain position on the crank sensor,so restarts happen instantly, the engine doesn't crank over n over to get it started . Ignore the dinosaurs on here , some managed to avoid extinction, for now anyways . :-)

You should have this button (Marked ECO)?

The repeated engagement with the flywheel will still cause some excess wear to the starter motor's pinion/bendix. But I agree that it is probably marginal. And in any event, cars equipped with the Start/Stop system are supposed to have both the main battery and the starter motor reinforced to cope with the additional usage.

Some use electro magnetic rings on stop start , no moving parts . Unsure on what makes n models it applies to.

Good point about a new battery may be needing a charge.

The W204 Blue Efficiency doesn't have a separate battery for the start stop. Well, mine doesn't anyway.

This makes me suspect the battery - either wrong type or not sufficiently charged. I don't recall the ECO light going yellow when the car is stopped once everything is warmed up.

It's now working. I guess it was your suggestion of the engine being up to operating temperature.

Thank you

So it worked for a "couple of days."
How many times have you driven the car and were they short trips ie less than 3 miles in stop/start traffic?
What was the weather like - was it relatively cold?
It might need a good run

I was glad mine stop/starts stopped working but it has its uses. It stopped working about at a year old and only
worked after long trips on m-ways and towards year 4 onwards never did
I had the batter changed close to a year ago - still do short trips other than two trips, both about 300 mile round trips -
the stop-star works all of the time but in recent days, as colder, won't kick in until cars warmed up - I often turn it off.
