was driving home from work about half hour ago and all was fine, running fine no problems at all.

getting towards home and decided to put my foot down because i seen a set of lights turn green and didnt want to get stuck at them.

got into the drive and the car started making a knocking sound quite loud and spluttering, very slight jerkiness aswell.

got a bit worried here, let it sit idling for a few seconds before i reversed back out and took it around the block a few times, tried putting my foot down then the problem had gone, run fine.

any ideas what could have caused this as im getting worried about my 40 mile trip to work tommorow. no errors showing up on dash,

Sorry to hear this ghummy. Not experienced this myself -Bit of water got on the electrics somehow? and you have now dried it off. Or perhaps a touch of air in a diesel pipe. Had you just filled up with diesel for instance. Others with more experience will be along soon.

Nope. Not filled up. Not been raining here today either. Totally baffling and worrying.

just took it out for a test drive, no problem at all, accelerated to 60-70 with ease, even floored it up a steep hill to and no problem showed.

the only way i can describe the knocking sound is for example if a wrong gear was selected, for example, selected 4th gear at 10 mph on a manual, you know the sound you get from it stuggling and jerking, it was just like that.
