Strange Gearbox reaction

Hi Guys,

I've had this mis-hap happen to me exactly 4 times since i've bought the car (1 year and almost 9 months), but yesterday it was quite severe and i really want to know why its doing it.

Basically I was giving it full throttle in first, and changed into second. No problem so far, now as i'm finishing 2nd gear and changing up into third, i have a feeling i did it slightly earlier then when i pressed the clutch pedal, it came half way and then got stuck! And i was stuck in second gear all the way home!

No matter what i did, no matter how far i pushed the clutch pedal in or out the stick wouldn't shift out of second. The stick itself still had some movement, but if i tried to reselect first or second it would feel as if its blocked. Even if when moved the stick around, the car was still driving in second gear.

Now when i think about this, i can only blame two things really; the gear selector itself (maybe the linkage to the gearbox isn't up to scratch), or the clutch release bearing? or it could be the gearbox just showing signs of wear?

What do you guys think?

Note: The previous 3 times its done this was in 3rd gear. when i'd try to change out of third, it would come half way and then stay there rendering the selector immovable. I really cant figure this out!

If the stick can move but the gears don't select then it sounds like a gearbox selector problem, BUT the strange part is the clutch doesn't disengage, or does it?
I'd go for the selector detents being worn so allowing both rods to move together so one blocks the other and they jam up.

The clutch doesn't disengage no. But this just happen to me again yesterday and i actually realised what i was doing to cause it to happen. Basically when i lift from 2nd to 3rd, for some reason i've got in the habit of lifting the stick up a little when i do it, (the stick needs to be lifted to go into reverse), so upon lifting the stick, it gets jammed halfway.

When i was underneath the car i did realise that the small detents that joins the rods (this is what you mean right), looked a little worn, but i still dont understand what would cause both rods to move at the same time?

It probably because you are lifting the stick and getting it jammed with the reverse interlock.
Just put your hand behind the gearknob to push from 2nd to 3rd. You don't need to grip or lift the gearknob at all, and it will make your changes slower if you do.

Hand to the side of the gearknob only.
