While driving tonight a strange thing happened and Im hoping someone can shed some light.
I was listening to radio and I pushed the tune/search up button on steering wheel. It started playing the cd that was in and the words TEMP and a little arrow head pointing upwards appeared.

Nothing happened when i pushed the steering wheel buttons, it appeared on the cd player and dashboard screen.

I ejected the cd and it disappeared.

Its a standard single cd player on a 2002 c180K

Can anyone shed some light please?

What CD were you playing? This could happen with a multimedia CD (contains video etc as well as the music tracks) & theoretically at least on some of the Sony Music copyrighted CDs that contain software to defeat copying on a PC.

Thanks for reply, As far as i know its just a normal audio cd.
Quite bizzzare - it was like it was reading some sort of cddb.

In my CD manual there are some notes that if the reader becomes to hot, there will be a message about hi temp and then it will shut down.

I have never experienced this myself however.
