Why did it have anything to do with your insurance company.... can you insure against rust?.....or did you crash the car due to the failure... which would be unusual....most don't even notice they have failed until the service centre or MOT man point it out.
Just noticed your comment : I was driving on the M4 motorway on the inside lane and the car just swerved and hit the safety barrier.I reported the incident to my insurance company and went through a question and answer session re various issues.
The insurance agent asked me what I thought happened and I told him I felt the rear subframe had failed causing the incident. I took photographs ( near side ) of the car to back up my
claim. The car had a lowered suspension but dropped another 40 mm and the rear road wheel was really out of line.
I had a telephone call from the approved repair company who told me that the had ordered the parts to repair the car.
The car was still at the Mercedes pound but was moved to the Worcester area for the repair.
That afternoon I received a call from the loss adjuster who informed me that they would not repair the car after inspection and made me a good offer for my car that I excepted.
All doors open , pan glass roof intact and all lights in one piece. ( Intelligence head lights). Steering was interesting and let's leave it at
that. The subframe had been inspected and deemed to be good a few months prior but comment was made subframes rust from the inside.
When I emptied the car I spoke to the manager of the site and asked him about rear subframe failure and his reply " has been known "
The insurance company had already arranged collection of the car.
The car had a full MB service history , new tyres and refurbished wheels.
I did look for a replacement example but my heart was not in it because I wanted the M276 3.5 engine and not the common 3.0 litre engine.
Such a shame because I really loved the car but life goes on.
