I have a C63 W205 and can’t get any Super Unleaded at the forecourt. My car is recommended to run on 99 Ron, standard unleaded is 95 Ron. I take it standard unleaded won’t cause any problems, just a small dip in performance if anything?

I did about 2 tanks in the SL in Ireland where Super is not available. Car felt decidedly sluggish but the owners manual says it is ok to use if needed.

MB also advise no full throttle when using 95.
Is that specifically for the M177, or any engine designed for >97 RON?

As an emergency, may wish to consider RedEx Octane petrol booster, which claims to add anything up to 1.5 RON. The E10 is not really ideal, so worth considering an additive for the time being to help out a little.

My 2020 E63S says 95 RON (98) - So I guess 95 minimum but 98 recommended ... In my area the only forecourt offering anything higher than 95 is Tesco with Momentum ... No Shell anywhere and BP only got 97 that costs 25p more per litre than Tesco's 99 .. madness

Yeah I only ever use momentum..... until now!

Yea - makes me feel a bit sick .. due to the current situation since getting my e63s from new in June last year, today was the first time I had to fill up with anything less than 99 using some random no name petrol station where the 95 is probably stretched with cheap cider and charged £1.49 for the pleasure !!!

🤣
I got a dribble of 97 until this ridiculousness is over/ until I can be bothered to queue.

Since owning my car have ever only put Vpower into my car. Apart from one time I went away and could not find any higher end fuel. So had to go with the standard 95 Ron unleaded. I could tell the difference in performance, was so obvious. So I always go for 99.9 of the time vpower I have on the odd occasion gone with the Tesco high grade. But my car seems to like the vpower .

I had just under half tank yesterday. I knew I had a busy end of the week ahead. So I went out to my local filling station and qued about 35 mins to I arrived at the pump to find no vpower only standard unleaded. So I filled up the tank like I always have done. In a above post is the mention of RedEx is this a good additive to go with. And do you put a full bottle into a full tank of fuel. Never before have I used the stuff.

It's a full tank of fuel to 1 bottle of Redex Octane booster, a small bottle around costs £10. Redex is good stuff, have also used their injector cleaners too on my other car and widely available from most places like eurocarparts halfords etc👍

Thanks badgx, I must get some and use that until hopefully the vpower comes available in my local station. 👍

That is random. Is a full tank 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 litres? 40vs80 is 2 x the concentration.

I have had to do the same for a M157. 95 unleaded + Millers until this craziness goes away

A bottle treats 50 litres, so definitely need 2 bottles to cover the extra, depending on the fuel tank capacity. The review below is an honest review, so an informed decision can be made. My local store only had a few bottles left on the selves, I just grabbed the last 2 they had. 🤫

Our local stations around here are still empty, the government say things are beginning to return to norm but it didn't feel like the case today when I popped out this morning, Shell forecourt, Tesco and BP are coned off.

Redex 0 To 60 Octane Booster (500ml) £9.99
Fuel additive's claims
Increases octane number of petrol by up to 1.5 numbers
Also increases fuel economy
Reduces exhaust emissions
Treats 50 litres
Findings
Cost per treated litre of regular unleaded: £1.25
Extra cost per tankful: £11.99
Octane: up by 0.9 numbers
Power: up by 4%
Torque: up by 5%
Fuel economy: no significant change
We say
Redex 0 to 60 Octane Booster just about lives up to the name on the bottle – boosting the octane rating by almost one number. However, the small power and torque increases don’t justify the cost – nearly three times the extra you’d pay by filling up with super unleaded.

I wonder how they got the hp & torque numbers.

Interesting that to treat 50L, the Redex costs ~20p/ litre while based on today’s average petrol prices (RAC numbers) the difference between super and regular is ~12p/litre. So 8p/L cheaper to use super (if you can get it).

My owners manual says:
Use highest octane available
Use fuels with additives (they are beneficial to keeping the engine etc un-fouled)
Consult your dealer if you cannot get super and want to use an additive (I’ll give you a £ to a pinch of $h1t that my dealer wouldn’t know).

Couple of questions - are you using the Millers 'Petrol Power EcoMax' stuff in the 500ml bottle? If so, how much are you putting in per tank? (assuming a tank on your CLS63 is 70 litres?) - considering buying some for my M177 C63S but could do with knowing quantities. Sorry for the thread hijack!
