Hi

My dad was driving his vehicle when the tyre pressure monitoring system went off stating the vehicle had a puncture. He pulled over to inspect and the front hand drivers side had dropped and was touching the vehicle. The car doesn't have air suspension either.

Mercedes roadside assistance stated it could 1 of three things.

Coil and springs have failed, loss of fluid or complete suspension failure.

Has anyone had this issue before? Any help would be greatful.

Thanks

The e class is renowned for broken front coil springs so I'd say cls is the same being the same chassis. Should be easy to jack up and see if spring has snapped.

Thanks for your response. As my dad has Mercedes road side assistance they have taken it to the main dealer garage already and will check over the car tomorrow. Thanks for your advice my dad just doesn't want a large bill from the dealer

Unfortunately it's never cheap at the stealers

Just be aware that the springs should be replaced in pairs , so the quote may reflect that.

Depending on the mileage of the car then , if it were my cash , I would get a full set of decent aftermarket springs (around £250) and get a recommended independent garage to fit them it may work out cheaper than a main dealer fitting two front ones.

There was a post a while back regarding a CLS and a main dealer fitting new springs and it looked way too high a the rear, but the dealer was adamant that they were the correct ones.

As said, likely to be the springs they are well known for getting hairline cracks. One of my rears had an end snap off, so the rears got replaced. I then had the fronts replaced a short time afterwards as a preventative measure (to avoid being caught out and having to have the car low loaded)

Had the same problem with my CLS. Issue was broken coil spring on drivers side. Indy garage + front aftermarket coil spring set and the problem was gone. :)

As others have said it has got to be the springs as on the W219 it is a common issue as well.

On the W219 the back end does sit higher than the front end (which is nice and low) which IMO does look odd with the rear being higher. Someone I know who had the W219 when was new and under 3 year warranty had both springs replaced under warranty as only one of his springs also snapped.

Thanks for your responses guys

The car will get the replacement springs at the MB dealer and not an indication garage as my parents need the courtesy car as its their only vehicle. The car is due to be looked at 2moro now. I've advised my dad to get both the front pair changed at same time if it is broken springs, makes sense IMO.

Will keep you updated and thanks again

hi, I know it may be a bit late, but I am selling my CLS coilovers, if the car is fixed then no problem, but will probably be the same price as buying 1 new shock for the full set of mine :)
