Sytner

Sadly, yes ! :D

So the CLS is going?! :(

Yep-will be sad to see it go(it's been a good/reliable car for the past 19 months)but i need 5 seats(i like the ml & the split/folding rear seats are ideal for what i will need it for).

I can understand that. The four seats in the CLS are inhibiting at times, but at the moment it suits me very well. I still fancy changing to an E Coupe, but I can wait a while!

Although I like the idea of an SL, what I really need is a tin top 4 seater convertible to replace my Saab, such as a 3 series :ban: so that may be my next voyage... :D
A 330d sounds very, very appealing... :D

BMW 3 series are awesome, try one...

Steve, good luck dealing with Sytner.

MB in Swindon are owned by Sytner. Can't fault the service I've had. Don't know about the sales side. But once you've struck a deal it's the service side that matters.
Now I'm wondering how the local Volvo dealer stacks up.

Thats good to know Crockers, good luck with the Volvo dealer.

I have had dealings with MB Synter for both sales and after sales and was not impressed with their after sales/servicing experience…. Because the after sales service/servicing was so poor I pulled out of buying a R230 SL500 from them.

Steve, just to add my four penn'th...

I had an ML 320 SE CDI and loved it to bits. Never missed a beat in four years. You get a lot of car for little money (second hand) if you don't mind the comparatively high running costs. Personally, I wouldn't go for the 270 though - plenty of the better performing 320s around at good prices. Just my opinion...

Best of luck whatever you do. If you can thoroughly check out the car's condition and history, I think that's a more important factor than where you buy it from. Check hard!!

(Crockers, I too am hopeful of decent Volvo dealership service. So far, everything like clockwork, but early days...)

It's a reputable chain dealing with high end cars. The car should be fine but check it over.

Mercedes paint work isn't the best. I've found more peeling paint and lacquer on the door edges just check everything over when you see the car

Shouldn't be necessary, the salesman said it was very good condition.

Was yours a "Select" car, if so was it a one private owner trade in?

Sorry to hear that, unfortunately sometimes bad experiences are had with even the most reputable dealerships(not sticking up for any of them),which mb sytner dealership was it if you don't mind me asking?

Will do Steve,if i'm not 100% happy i'll walk(have done so more than a few times in the past when buying cars),i'm in no rush so will wait until the right one comes along.

Thanks for your thoughts, running costs not a problem(i'm parting with my cls 500 to get an ml so am used to them),i'm leaning towards the 280 v6(2008).

No mines a four owner missing a service resprayed unreliable shed. But it came with a years dealer warranty and was sourced through the main dealer network and sold by Mercedes Benz of Hull which belong to Listers Group. It was described as one previous owner and FsH on the phone and I took their word, silly me. Caveat Empor.

I reckon Steve should go see the car and if it's as described which it more than likely will be, buy it and enjoy it.

That was not a good experience for you Steve & not what you expect from a main dealer but as you say caveat Empor,if indeed the car i'm viewing is as described & the service history etc is upto scratch then i will hopefully buy it:)

When did you discover it had had 4 owners? Before or after purchase?

I've experienced that before.

BMW salesman (BMW Oxford / Woodcote roundabout) told me a car was in excellent condition.

Turned up and the front was covered in stone chips.

"We wouldn't do anything about that sir".

"I wouldn't be parting with any cash for that then..."

I would now inspect the paint carefully on any car...

In general you only have to be aware of two things.

Do they appear to be awake?
Are their lips moving?

Urban Dictionary: salesman

I always mention stone chips when enquiring about a used car(they are to be expected with age but are a good bargaining tool if left untreated)
