Imagine the scene, you are wafting along about 50mph on a NSL road, its a dark night, road surface is a tad damp, nice safe speed for the conditions. Ahead is a fog patch, start to slow down for that and consider use of fog lighting.

You hit said fog patch, its always here just past the hostel on Loch Lomond opposite the Duck Bay (for the benefit of those who know the westbound A82).

The fog is quite thick, visibility is a bit ****, I cannot see further than a distance that would be safe to stop at 30mph, so I roll on about 25mph. I have a loon right behind me with his front fogs on right on my bumper. I trying slowing a tad again to drop the hint.

He aint taking it. Left foot on brakes and with rear fog on he does. The road rises and visibility improves, a speed of 40mph is now safer. Right on bumper.

We have a queue behind me thats quite long. I ponder, maybe I am too slow and looking ahead I really cannot see very far. Judging by some of the road kill (fresh) I imagine others have not been able to either and have gone a tad to crisply along the road. I decide I am right, and they must be wrong:D:D:cool::cool:

We are going up the Hill towards the connecting road to Helensburgh, you can go fast here, when its not a pea soup of fog. Dip**** decides to glue himself to my rear, and the left foot brake thing is not dispelling him.

Again, its very thick fog and I genuinely felt 30mph was as a far as I could see safe to stop.

What bad eye sight I must have. Barry Chav and his Subaru must be the next Colin Macreas on the make, Vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooooooooooom right past me. Must have done 80 to get past me and dip**** Astra man behind me.

On the small back road into Helensburgh you cannot see far, its real thick, like the fog you get in the Thames valley, you know, the sort of stuff that reduces the M40 to pile up ;). Dip**** decides to overtake before a blind chrest, I know its there as I know the road like the back of my hand, he must not as you simply do not overtake there if you value you life and he did. I was on the brakes in anticipation of something coming round the bend, smashing him and then possibly me as a consquence. If I had been 30 sec earlier, I'd be injured, not killed and my pride and joy killed.

Its very irritating.

I normally stop altogether.
Let them get on with their brief lives.

agree on annoying

Sorry, but, what's a NSL road?

Sorry, but, what's a NSL road?

A road which is not limited by either 20mph/30mph/40mph/50mph limits or 30mph by the presence of street lights and no sign to indicate a limit other than 30mph.

A 60mph road for your car.

Nice variation here this morning. Some with headlights and fog, some with sidelights and fog, and some with none.

I think part of the danger of fog is it's deceptive. When you have lights to follow, visibility can see, better than it actually is.

That's what I thought, but it could equally have been a motorway or dual carriageway. Except there would have been overtaking lanes.

Carry on.:)

With my front fogs on there was a marked improvement in what I could see, especially at the low level.

That is how bad it was.

I was the head of the queue and thus most vulnerable to a rear shunt and hitting something at the front.

And aye, you get big deer that would make cracking venison steaks around here. The thing is, I'd rather buy 'em at the butcher, not be impaled by one.

Refreshing to see that not all the tw*ts live down south . The thing that really winds me up is the use of front/rear fogs on a clear night. Fully agree with what you did. Tempting when in a company car to brake hard .!! ( just as well my boss doesnt use this site ).:dk:.

Silly...why would you deliberately put yourself and others in harm's way?

I know what they are, but an NSL road could be a single carriageway, a dual carriage way or a motorway.

Yes, the nature of the road has been clarified now for the purposes of this thread. The road where the overtakes were done was of similar width to that of the pic Peter has uploaded.

...that's what I was thinking...making a drama out of a ...

:o is there a visual shape dyslexia ?

I knew there was something naggingly wrong when I posted it:)

That road between Ardlui and Tarbet is scary (and beautiful) at the best of times - especially when one of the large wagons/coaches comes the other way.
I would hate to drive it in fog/at night.
