Looking in Classic Car Mag yesterday i ended up on the information page . I read ablout new tyres that are fitted that will now have this red or orange dot on the side wall ... I never noticed after i had my new tyres fitted a few weeks ago . Well i find in the mag that the new tyres must be fitted with the red dot just below the tyre valve . - Reason one is - the valve hole for the wheel is the lightest part of any wheel . Reason two,- ,the red spot denotes the heavest part of the tyre ,this is because the steel wire is overlaps in this area . So i went out to check my new set of tyres . Not one red dot anywhere near the valve .
So its time to talk to the foreman tyre fitter, he is a good friend of mine .Every car tyre i purchased i have had from this company. I need to see what he has to say about it. Moral of this is that all new tyres with this little red spot, must be under the tyre valve . So look for this on you next visit for tyres. Google it.

I've noticed a white spot on new tyres for a while now and , OCD , they're not easy to remove.Haven't looked to see exactly where they are.

I thought the dot on the tyre had to be opposite side of the wheel to the valve. I dont have dots on any of my recently purchased Goodyear tyres.

I thought that it didn’t matter if the tyre was balanced with weights and that it was a guide as to where to seat the tyre for those countries that don’t have access to balancing machines ?

Do a google search on it .Lots of information on this ..The tyre fitting companys dont bother with these dots,, as long as the tyre are balanced .

Doesn't surprise me that tyre fitting outlets don't fuss about them. The point of aligning the dots is you get to achieve a balanced wheel with the minimum amount of balance weights which has to be a good thing.

My motorcycle tyres always have the dots and I make sure to mount them correctly. There are no marks on my alloy wheels but I can measure the run out and do a static balance without the tyre fitted to confirm the high point and the heavy point.
