The 2020 CL215 Owners Register

Hello Neils65
Welcome to the mbclub forum.
We are a Register for the CL215 cars.
It would be much more helpful to you if you started a new post in the main forum under the Electronics section where there are experts on your C220. You will get much better advice there.
Many thanks

Pete, battery drain on the CL215 is a "guessers paradise" !
To save money, time & frustration it needs the codes as a starting point.
Star or a good OBD code reader will provide these & a smart /good "Indie"
will do the rest.
Nevertheless we all go for the cheap option first & with a 20 year old car
there is a mass of informed experience/opinion to be found on the main forum
from past Register owners. Simply put "Mercedes CL215 battery drain" into Google
& look in "MBClub UK " headings !!

Do you use a code reader ? Have you got one ?

Swotty has given a suggestion, m2287 found that the PSE pump & comand system
were popular causes & Dash1 provided a thesis on detailed DIY drain tracking.
Keep us posted please.
Thanks, no codes are being thrown up which is frustrating, so still trying to track down the pesky culprit. It’s been intermittent too, left it the train station all day a few weeks ago and started first time, but last week, similar trip and same time left locked in the car park and battery too low to turn it over.

I did notice after I boosted the battery and started it, that my entire left rear lights were out. Got home, charged it overnight and lights worked fine, so could this be a clue to where the drain is, or just an odd coincidence?

Latest one today was a warning to check the water in radiator on the dash, but it was fine, so could this be a faulty sensor?

And keep getting tail light warning too, check the bulb each time which is fine so must be loose connection (also on the left rear)?

I am pleased to report that I managed to fully enjoy my CL55 the other evening as I had a fabulous blast across the countryside near me, on a lovely late summer’s evening.

Had all my windows down (love the pillar-less design) and was able to enjoy the performance, handling and glorious sound of my V8 which put a much needed smile back on my face after my mechanically challenging year.

I hope you have all been able to enjoy your CL’s too.

Hello Pete,
The popular methods to check for parasitic drains are available on You Tube. WikiHow is a useful one,
just Google "Parasitic drain ".

Rear lights often become corroded in the base, the offside being most popular, did you check yours ?
That can give random warnings.

Is battery fully checked OK ?

Battery is brand new and lights look free if corrosion.

I am going to replace the bulb holder for the indicator as that is one that plays up.

Fab thanks. I will take a look online. 👍🏼

Hello Alex, I need some new tyres on my CL (245/40/18).
You must see many of our cars !!
What tyres do you find are most suitable/popular ?

I seem to have caught your problems Pete....parasitic drain on the other car.
I have recently purchased an Amp Hound which drastically cuts the time to
check fuses. Very pricey for what it is (USA) but the CL fuses are not too accessible for me these days !

Sorry to hear that. I am down to a 0.9 amp drain, just had replaced faulty door module which I hoped was the drain but seems not.

Mine turned out be the auxiliary battery (on the E500) if your Indy was tasked with it I am surprised he did
not pin it down for you before returning the car.
Was the door module pricey ?

It would appear that you & I are the only ones in the register who have faults on their car ?
I have got a rear strut on the way out, it has been seeping for some time now. not as easy to renew
as the front.

Auxiliary battery? Not even aware of that, so will have that checked so thanks Simon.

I just wanted the car back as they had it long enough and thought I would wait until door module was in to check it. Managed to find one second hand so should be only about £40 for the part, but waiting a call to pick my CL55 back up so I will confirm final cost then.

'We are the only ones with faults on our cars'! Like you, I cannot quite believe that as they are a little complicated for sure. Sorry to hear that your Rear Strut is leaking, this is where it can get pricey and as you know, I learn't that 'after-market' or 'reproduction' parts were not up to the standard and cost me more in the end, so you might need to bite the bullet or find some second hand and you are still taking a chance on their condition. And do you replace just one? Probably not wise, but they are expensive. Must be an option to remove and recondition out there which would be a good way forward for us all?

No that reference was to the E500 (W211) !
Yes, a single strut can be replaced quite normally.
I do not buy New M-B spares unless I have no option.
A trustworthy breaker can be a good friend !

Ha ha, that makes sense and no wonder I hadn't heard of it on my CL55!

Yes my Indy has been sourcing some spares via Prestige AllParts - so that is working well and keeping the costs in check. Good luck in sourcing a replacement strut and be good for you to share cost when you source one and price to fit as this is the part of the ABC pain us CL owners go through, so any cost savings are a real bonus and will keep more of our cars on the road which can only good news.

Just had a quick look what they have in stock and worth a view for anyone searching for second hard parts:

I will rephrase that for you:-

Unusually, they are not competitive on struts...£465+Vat !
Just a comment Pete, nothing more.

No worries Simon, I was just interested in what you have found them for and the breakers? Just had a look on eBay and second hand struts ranging from £130-£400 so see they are a little on the expensive side.

Update from me, had my passenger door module replaced as it had an intermittent fault, so all sorted. Still ongoing battery drain which is going to take some time to find me thinks 🙄. But also had my CD Changer sorted so enjoying lslistening to my old CDs 😁.
