Dropping the AMG brand would make sense if the savings from doing so exceed the (direct and indirect) profits from selling AMG cars and associated merchandise.

I don't know the answer to this question.... but I have no doubt that the bean counters do.

I much suspect the random (and infuriating) way AMG is used as an add on to more basic cars names model/s it must be a good money earner for MB.

Likewise their purchase of Brabus must have a reason for future plans.

Germans and their banks take a much longer view on profit return than UK, which (despite current issues) has worked well for their industries in the past.
