Hi folks,

I was thinking about the best and most cost efficient way of bringing my old 250d back to its former glory and in the end I have decided to get a donor car.

Initially I though that it would be very, very difficult to get a car that has all/most of the parts that I need and comes in the same SmokeSilver (702) colour. I was wrong. Car that fits my description popped up on the bay a lot sooner than I expected (what together with some other issues messed up my finances a little bit) and I have snapped it up.

I am picking it up tomorrow (Warrington area). Hopefully the old 4pot will make the whole journey back in one piece (fingers crossed).

There are few parts that I need and I won't be able to source from the donor, that is where I need your help my fellow forum members.

Last week I have driven over a pot hole and ever since then every time I go over a speed bum there is a nasty knocking sound (banging) coming from the rear left wheel :wallbash::wallbash:. What is more, I have noticed that the car sits a lot higher at the back (what fills me with fear, see the pics), most probably due to some damage to the SLS? Any opinions? What shall I check first?

I am going to get new front suspension springs (soon, hopefully) fitted. In order to do that, I have researched few car parts suppliers and got few quotes (not including the MB stealers yet) but I can't seem to find the 'spring cups' mentioned by Trapperjohn, is that what they are called (or strut cups or...?)?

In the first place I am going to give it a good service. I'm planing to do: the belt, the water pump, the t-stat, oil, filters and screen wiper. Is there anything else that I should consider?

Shall I consider changing the oil in the gearbox?

Many thanks for all the help in advance guys!

Greg

Get the back end checked. I could be just an exhaust hanger missing. The older 124s/190s always sat higher at the back. No big worries I would say.

Not for your car but it gives you an idea. There are plenty of 124 owners in London I'm sure they will give you good direction if you seek them out.
Gearbox oil change - always a good idea.

Good Luck.
