Hi all, considering trading in my gl 420cdi for a 2013/2014 GL 350 CDI

Any thoughts on the drop in power going from a 420 CDI(4l V8) to a 350 CDI (3L V6)?

Moreover seems like the Americans and Canadians have already got their hands on these, but from whatever conversations ive had we only get them in September this year?

Never had the GL, but I must say, it is sitting right at the top of my next-car-to-be list.
If I was to stay with mercedes, it would most certainly be between GL and S.

You got to love the standard spec on the GL, the space, and the mighty presence.
To be fair, the only optional item i would get on this car, would be reverse camera.
Everything else needed, is already provided.

Agreed, i wouldnt change mine for anything else currently available. Mine didnt have the reversing camera as stock but got one retrofitted.

Build slots here typically start in April, for delivery July-ish, can order now. Only other ones scheduled for delivery are pre specified dealer cars/demos but better discounts/incentive on new builds over the demos at the minute. 12-18 week build time as well, not driven one yet but drove a high spec ML350 CDI with active curve assist + driving assistance pack (distronic etc) and it was quite nice so hopefully the GL will be better - not sure how but will only know when I get the chance to drive one in a few weeks time.

Thanks Dr Nab. I dont think there is going to be that much difference in performance between the 350 you have and the new one. How do you find the performance on your current GL?

They have been available in Northern American and elsewhere since the end of 2012. I've been following US Merc forums and reading owner reviews and experiences. Overwhelmingly, the news is good!

I'm keeping an eye on them closely, trouble is, NEED both a new GL and SL in my life. Which sucks.

It is a bugger that there's no more diesel V8 for us though. :(

No problem. I think there will be a fair amount of difference between the two as the new model has the higher output 3.0l V6 CDI and 7G+ gearbox but if I go ahead with one then the chances are it will get the Brabus D6S upgrade as well which would all but negate the need for the V8 CDI. Can understand the need for an engine with much more torque but unfortunately it hasn't made the cut. Still think that MB need to get their skates on with a twin turbo V6 diesel, would be perfect for the SUVs.

Hi, I've had the new model X166 GL 350 for just over a year now. I went from a 450bhp Cayenne Turbo and missed the power. The GL is on average 10mpg more efficient and despite the torque, it'll struggle to power out of sharp bends. I had the Brabus D6S upgrade a few months ago adding 20% power (and 30% to insurance premiums). I have not looked back. It's a must upgrade for the size of this car and acceleration is excellent in all gears.
Incidentally the power upgrade has no effect on fuel economy. It's +/- 1mpg at most.

What fuel economy do people get out of the GLs?
