I recently had a new cat and exhaust fitted to my w202 c180 auto and it has made the car very quiet.

I have noticed at about 3200rpm i get a ticking noise, it's not load related as it will do it at light or heavy throtle loads.. always starts at exactly the same revs.

If hold the autobox in 2nd and accelerate up to 3200-4000 I can hear the ticking untill I lift off.

Just had an oil change and flush just in case but noise it too light to be a tappet.. Am i correct in thinking injector noise or egr valve (if fitted)

Ticking comes in just as you feel the power come in as revs build

am at 84,000 miles with full fsh

Sounds like that new cat has a small blow, probably where it joins the old part of the exhaust, Has it just come on since the exhaust was fitted, as for injector noise you would never hear them inside the car, or anything above idle.

Could also be exhaust manifold leak,if there is no part of the old exhaust left on, check all the new joints for small blows, small leaks like that sound like a klicking when as you say revs are building .

had a really good look at the exhaust and manifold and cannot feel or see any leaks..

is it possbile it is the injectors or one of the other fuel injection components
