My car has been doing what it wants rather than what I want of late, for example it decided to stay in 1st gear at 4000rpm for the length of my road, approx 3/4 mile, and I was out accelerated by a Corrolla that was 4 up, so of I trundle to my $tealer to be informed my 2 year parts warranty on my MAF expires in ten days, so I need to book it in for checking and replacement, but, and here is the catch, if they decide there is nothing wrong with it I get a bill for £55 for them checking it. Catch 22 or what! :(

Well you need to know what's wrong - I would ask them to diagnose the car/fault rather than the MAS and see what they say. I would have not mentioned the MAS part warranty until they told you that is what you required!

If you have any problems with the part being replaced I recommend you print some flyers out reading: "parts bought from here only last as long as the warranty" and stand at the entrance handing them out to customers. It won't take long for someone to take interest and the work to be done FOC.

I have it booked in for Friday. Unfortunately they looked up my service history and saw the MAF had been replaced by them, hence the 10 days left on warranty. They did however agree that the symptoms i described sound like the MAF, so wish me luck.

I have just replaced my maf on a w203 it cost £58 + vat from the stealers

Result at $tealer

Car went in on Friday to be checked for faulty MAF with 3 days left on 2 year parts warranty. After technician playing with various bits and bobs, and printing reams of paper from Star Diagnosis, I got a new MAF fitted free of charge. All diagnosis, labour and parts FOC against parts warranty. :bannana: :bannana:

Result!!

Its like driving a different car, with all of the features such as that pedal on the floor to make it go faster working correctly. Kickdown is a wonderfull thing when it works.
