Bit of a quandary at moment as to whether to sell my car and get another which has better interior etc whilst there is a price crash on W124's or continue on doing mine up.

I paid 700 12months ago, since then changed wheels, head gasket, sports shocks, k&r springs and general tidy up.

Only a couple of small rust scabs around side indicators, main thing is interior is worn and sagging.:(

Milage 159,000 - crusie control-works, Air Con - not a clue.

if I sell what can I realistically expect 500-600 even with all the work done on it. Then hope there is something avail for around 800-900 with my luck.

So Should I sell or bide my time and continue working on her.. What do you guys/dolls think;)

It is hard to do, but if you are looking at the car, and making a list of things you would prefer, then it makes more financial sense to sell up, and buy an example that has everything you are looking for. It will save you a lot of money, but perhaps not as rewarding.

I had an E34 540i (BMW) years ago and kept getting things done to it as I could afford it. One day the mechanic took me into the office and told me to sell it and buy one that was in better condition....And I didn't.

Why not pick up a 124 with a scabby body ad transplant the interior? that way you stay with the car you know and solve the main issue you have with the car

I can't imagine 124 saloons ever recovering the money you could easily put into them. Not even sure that estates and coupes are worth it either... come to think of it given how easy it is to spend cash on them, even a cabrio would would be beyond economical repair pretty quickly.

I take the other view - how much would you spend finding a better car including the money lost on yours, and time. At least you know the current car's foibles and the work you have had done to it so far. What do interiors go for?

I'm about to sink some more cash into my CE  hopefully I won't regret it as I'll never get it back.

I have been in a similar position recently (in fact put my car up for sale here) but as time has passed I have come to the conclusion that better the devil you know. With another car you are buying another set of unknowns, at least with your car you know exactly what it's had and what its problems are. Car prices are way too volatile at the moment as the market is showing, trader friend says that auction houses are full to the rafters.

Cheers for advise I've come to same conclusion, better the devil you know, so with that in mind think I'll hang on till I can get replacement interior, only problem with that is that most of cars breaking are Down South (must crash more there:devil: ) so viewing and transport is a issue:(

Down Sarf.

I was going to say the same thing about keeping the car, but if you sell it then the length of MOT will surely effect selling price?

Good luck going down sarfff (three 'f's)

If anything comes up near me (SE25) let me know, I could take a peek for you.

With that sort of mileage, it's not going to be 'mint' :o

The mechanics, interior and body all look fairly tired, but I guess it won't be going for big money either?

If you're going to the hassle of selling your car to buy another, I would be tempted to hold out for something a little nicer, once you start fixing that one up (bodywork, mechanicals etc) you might as well buy a better one? :)

I'm going to look (again, but this time with Mrs O)at a 300E tomorrow, bodywork looks good on first inspection in that gorgeous metallic red, and the interior is quite tidy for a J plate i.e. drivers seat not damaged.

If priced at 650 but that will need some work.

If I decide not to go for it:eek: I'll pass on the details if you so desire.

Cheers for offer but i've decided to keep doing mine up I've put too much time and money in her already, and im not willing to pay more than 300quid for either a Interior or a knackered car with good interior.

I have been watching this for a while too, hoping it would finish cheap ;)
Its not far from me and I could use the running gear :)

I would want engine/box/wiring and all ECU's and preferably the alloys too
Every panel and interior etc would certainly be surplus to my requirements !

However - It has no tax, and I have no room to store it whilst breaking it.

it does say it has tax, but if you did get it we might be able to come to some sort of arrangement over TAX - deducted from interior!

the interior in that looks like a marked improvement over mine, see my sig for pics
