As I dont want put mucky bits in my '97 C180 I decided to fit a towbar as I already have a fairly lightweight trailer and dont want to put mucky bits in the car. I had a look on ebay where prices normally range between £100 to £200, then found a brand new one with merc part number with fitting instuctions for £60 or submit best offer so I offered him a price of £40 which he accepted, bargain or what. It arrived today and looks really well made and robust enough to tow the Titanic. The only drawback is that I need to either lower of remove the back half of my exhaust system. The join on the exhaust system looks as though it connects just behind the 'cat' with a type of 'sleeve' type of joint, does this sound correct and is it likely to be a pain ?? I may well take it to my local garage for a price for fitting as the use of a 4 post ramp would speed up the fitting process dramatically.

Hi Hotrodjon,

you should be able to release the rear exhaust mountings in order to
lower it enough and slide the towbar under would help if you could use a ramp.

I am going to have a good look at the condition of the exhaust system before I start. I m.o.t ed it this week so it should be reasonably sound.
