Car
A150 SE
Hi all,

My mother has decided to upgrade her 2006 A150 to a 2009 model A150 BlueMotion. The car she upgraded to is ex-demo and she is somewhat dissatisfied with the customer service received from the dealer... Many things she was told don't seem to be correct, and a number of documents are missing, not completed, or for the wrong model.

As such, we are a little suspicious as to the car's history and there seems to be absolutely no history documentation provided with the car. Is anyone here able to run a check on what the spec should be and any service history? I have the VIN detail and can PM this.

Thanks in advance,

Andy.

If it's an ex-demo chances are there will be no service history, just a service book with a PDI stamp.

As it is a 2009 car it may have not had a service yet, whats the date of first registration and have you checked what the service indicator on the dash says? Locking wheel nut case is normally in the storage compartment in the right hand side of the boot.

Did you buy from a main dealer? If so they should provide these things asap - it begs the question why you accepted the car like this.

Yes it was from a main dealer... and I wasn't there, I am just trying to find out the information she needs as to what should and shouldn't be there, so she can complain to the manager.

Thanks to all so far for the responses. Would still be useful if someone could check the VIN to show what spec the car actually is (rather than what it has been sold as).

The russian online VIN check wont have the info for your car so you need someone with access to the official MB EPC or go to any main dealer who will be able to print out the datacard. Otherwise try ringing MB UK Customer Service and see of they can help and give you the info over the phone.

From what you have said, I suspect the car is not ex-demo and was previousley a MB-UK car or from a finance company. Have you got the full V5 yet? Check what name is on it. If not, is the numberplate K-prefix? With Mercedes thats always a sure sign its a MB-UK or ex-finance vehicle.

You should have recieved a folder which contains the service book and manuals, and then seperate to that you should the the locking wheel nuts for the alloys. These are usually held centrally if its from MB-UK stock, but if it was a proper dealer owned ex-demo they should have them to give to you. Floor mats are never usually included with new/ nearly-new cars and have to be purchased seperately.

If its within 30-days I think you are covered by the exchange program and are entitled to take the car back and swap for another in the same dealer network if your not happy with it.

Dealers can't be trusted when they say ex-demo these days. A lot of them are ex-hire cars, ex-courtesy cars, or from short term leases or whatever. I know that Enterprise rent a car had some A150s last year, it could be one of them. They disguise this by registering it to a name on the V5 that you won't recognise. A true ex-demo will be registered to the dealership you bought it from.

Finally as mentioned its unlikely there will be any service history on a 2009 vehicle, A150 goes up to 18-months/10k without a service IIRC.

You could try emailing Mercedes-Benz UK with the VIN and reg-no to get any info on services, the original spec and warranty work. I have a direct email address for someone who helped me with the same problem, can let you have it if you PM me.

EDIT: Also do a HPI to double check its not a write-off if you haven't already done so. Try googling the registration number to see if its gone through auction recently or been advertised elsewhere.

I appreciate Horse and bolted spring to mind here, ;) but,
I can't help feeling all this stuff should've been sorted before handover of the keys. If it'd been me I'd've said yes, happy to take delivery of the car, but only when all the paperwork is sorted and the items missing, sourced or replaced. Where upon there would’ve been a mass melt down of staff while people ran around to sort it all out. …Simples :)

Remember the threat of money walking out of the showroom talks very loudly in these cases ;)
