Hi can any one tell me how many litres of ATF I need to replace the fluid in a s320cdi on a 05 carnt find it in the manual anywhere oh and is there any ATF recommended for this box

Depends?

Full drain off including the TC is just over 7 litres I believe.

Gearbox only is around 5 litres.

Hi sinewave not very mechanical don't know what the tc is but I'm dropping the sump to fit a new filter or thats what my mechanic has recommended so if I purchase 8ltrs of ATF should be well in then

The "tc" is the torque convertor, this will hold 3 or 4 litres of old fluid so it is best to drain it if possible. MB used to fit drain plugs but discontinued this for some reason, probably cost saving.

There is an excellent thread on here by BlackC55 (Olly of PCS)on how to do it, be warned there are a few common pitfals such as bolts seizing and breaking.

Assuming that you have the 5 speed gearbox then this is how to do it:

Hi,
Don,t forget you will need a dipstick as well, and a new blanking plug for the dipstick tube. Your will not have a TC drain plug, they were discontinued circa 1997-98.
Check out the DIY/How To section of the forum as Olly (BlackC55) Did a step-by-step with pics on doing this job.

Olly certainly nows what he is on with will relay this to my mechanic see if he will do it.If not is there anybody in the notts area that can tackle this
