2000 ML 320 was stuck in limp mode (no codes) auto gear box indicator showing yello box ( no P, N, D etc.. ) (no other faults - selection fine)after lots of research plummed for replacing gear selector. Order part fitted - success !!! took for spin no problems tiptronic also fine.
Got home - back into park.

Issue !

Stuck in park. After multiple attempts now always sticks back in park - need to use manual lever overide.
Was wondering if i could replace the PCB of new with my old as think this is a problem but cant get it off...

Is their something else I'm missing ??? Do I need to reset post gear selector change ?

other things to check ? Wifes car .. spent a day on it now and feeling the heat for the school run tmrw !

Is your brake light working?

Yes Brake light working... haven't connected up all e/w etc.. as wanted to test before putting back together . Also now reverted back to original gear selector with just hte PCB changed. Still all working except wanting to stick in park . Wondering what ive done ??

What is the sprint loaded switch on the front right of the gear selector for ?

Have you put it on Star Diagnostic? What is/are the fault code?

Being stuck in park could be caused by a number of different faults in the car. On my W210 it was initially the gear shift module, but having replaced the module a fault code had to cleared down using the Star Diagnostic computer.

Really need STAR to be sure

I've had the same problem with my 1999 CLK320 (130000m). Started off by not turning over on the starter unless put into N (and then intermittently), then after two weeks non-use the indicator was all over the place. I trickle charged the battery and it got better but intermittently went to showing R when it was in P and consequently not turning over on the starter although after a run it was fine. The indy wanted to replace the gear selector but I put a new "charged" battery in first in case that was the problem. Still playing up. After a few days I trickle charged the new battery (it took 6 hours) and everything has now been working perfectly for a week.
It seems that a dying battery or even a new one slightly below full charge is enough to cause all this.
