Does anyone know a specialist who is capable of setting up the vacuum system on the electronic 5 speed box. Mine seems to slip on the upshift between 3rd and fourth. I understand this can be reduced by making the gear change more aggressive. I can't find anyone in the Surrey/Hants area capable of this. There are loads of people in the USA who do this. Will anyone take it on here?
I've already had my ATF oil and filter changed.

What box? If it's a 722.6 then there is no vacuum, if it's a 722.5 then there is a modulator on the side of the box IIRC.

uh oh... does it change normally if you are being very gentle with the throttle, but flare if you are using more than half throttle?

if so - its prob the same prob i had with a 722.6 box - the bearing in the main clutch basket as gone (do a google for 722.6 bearing) - which trashes the basket and shafts. new pair of shafts = about a grand. eek: but you might be able to find a low mileage box from dronsfields or mercman

look under specialists - george fraser is a gearbox specialist hes in acton (hangar lane gyratory area off the M40 / A40

At that price I'd fit a new box as they're about £1200 exchange from MB.

Thanks for the replys...
Guydewdney it tends to flare at any throttle but it's obviously more with heavier throttle due to the extra torque the clutch is having to deal with.
DieselMan... How do I know which box I have?
I also forgot to mention. It only slips after a good 10 mile drive. It seems fine when it's cold...

hmmm - seems familiar to me... Mine did the same...

if its the electronic box there are no vacuum connections to adjust - its all done with an ECU.

if you can get an exchange box for 1200 quid that might be worth looking at - but im doubtful - but i stand to be corrected.

as i have said many times - go and see George Fraser in Acton... he sorted me out...

Locky, when an auto box slips you're in deep doo-doo. The choice is between a main dealer and a German car specialist. Either way, it's real money.
Let us know what it costs. Btw what model are you running?

: ( This looks like bad news. I've only had the car 2 weeks. I spoke to George Frazer and he hinted towards a possible burnt out clutch.
I'm running an E220 CDI

Anyone know what sort of price a clutch pack and fitting can run into? I'm getting worried.

you are not going to get much change from a grand to be honest. its not usually the parts that are expensive - its the labour - it is in the shop for 2 or 3 days. the problem is theres no way of knowing what is exactly wrong until you open up the box and poke it a bit with a spanner... ;)

a box from a scrappy can be very hit and miss - the first box i got from V12 came off a car that was driven in (i think) - bt george took it apart and it was fecked - so we sent it back and got another one by return of post. The second one was perfect (I think it was a mixup at their end)

phone mercman in southampton / ask V12 aka ricky

well I took it down today... looks like the figures going to be around £1400..
