TV Amplifier How To?

I've managed to source a brand new TV Amplifier for my W215 (£100 off EBay, whoo hoo!). Does any have any hints and tips on fitting this?

I have worked out I need to take the C-Pillar covering off, and have the instructions how, which look pretty straight-forward.

However the fitting of the amplifier looks fiddly. Currently I'm stuck trying to work out how the sliding contacts are properly seated on the contact arms.

Hints and tips gratefully received.

Is this the TV tuner or the strip that goes across the entire car from one side to the other.

If it is the strip that goes in the roof .... you can talk about another 500 pounds in labour to get that roof lining down. Its nothing to laugh at I can assure you. Hence the reason why some of these great ebay deals are not so much the larger part of the job.

The other thing is that if you install the wrong version your radio remote wont work except for when you are close to the IR on the door handles.

Not for the novice unfortunately.

If it is the TV tuner .... same deal only now you are also removing the interior.

It's the strip. I've looked at the WIS sheets and, if you ignore complete removal of the rook panel, which isn't really necessary, it's not such a big job. I've been quoted for an hours labour.

I'd like to know more about your comment about the IR not working. I have got the right one so I'm not worried but I'm intrigued, how does that affect the IR?

As my car was pre-wired for TV I simply plugged the TV tuner in and mounted it on the bracket. :p

It won't effect the IR, i think what miro was saying is that if you install the wrong version it won't be listening on the right frequency for your key so you will only have the IR to fall back on and he is correct but since you know you have the right version its nothing to worry about.

Have you got to the amp yet?

How could you install the wrong version?

The CL was not only sold in the EU mate, different parts of the world use different frequency's.

If you put a part meant for a US car into a UK model for example you will have issues, you'd be surprised how often it happens with aftermarket installs.

But again since you know you have the right part you wont have any issue.

Now we've cleared up the fact that I haven't purchased some incompatible part, can someone tell me how the connections between the antenna and the arms on the amplifier are made?

I'd rather ascertain this beforehand to avoid mishaps, both when dismantling the existing amplifier and fitting the new one.

Well my memory is useless and i don't have access to an SDS until I'm back in work but wouldn't it be just as simple to drop the rear part of the headlining down and inspect the current one visually.

That should give you a fairly good idea of the setup.

From what i remembers its just generally fiddly not particularly difficult.

I realise it is the same as the one there now. I just want to make sure I know what that is before dismantling the current one. Over cautious perhaps but, just as I made sure I did not buy the wrong amplifier, I am keen to ensure I know as much as possible about the task in hand before tackling it.
