TV Video sender units

the tivo forum reckon the argos one is fine... they all use the same frequency / system...

however, if you want to be clever, get the media adaptor http://www.linksys.com/splash/wma11b_splash.asp - my brother has one - basically gives you vide / images / mp3 player on your telly, easy to use, good quality.

what do you want to do - and how far do you want to send, and how big is the reciever telly?

If the rx TV is big (26"+) then i wouldnt reccomend any wireless, the quality degrades (errors show up a lot more) - and if playing DVD then its a waste...

I have wireless from the living room to the kitchen (20') on a 14" and its fine. i use a wireless to control my tivo from the bedroom, but use an existing aerial to get the picture....

Im into this stuff, so tell me more.

Hello Guy
At the moment I just need a better signal for a portable 14" TV/VCR combi unit.
The signal from it's own aerial just isn't much good.
The signal would currently only have to travel about 8' diagonally through a chimney, but we may move the portable upstairs sometime.
I take it that using the SCART sockets will be better than the co-axial sockets.
Can I have one SENDER at the main TV and two RECEIVE units around the house ? (or don't they work like baby intercom units)
If my neighbours had one would I pick up their signal ?
We only have terestial TV. (Murdock isn't getting my money.)
Regards
Patrick

you might be able to get the reception on both - the aerial seems to be a bit directional.

they have multiple channels - at least 4 or 5, so if the neighbors have one it is possible for them to view your - ahem home viseo ahem... ;)

not much better than coax / aerial, but a lot less hassle...

8' shoudnt be a problem...

I use a Digisender, which can be bought from Argos £80 IIRC. (1 sender + 1 receiver)
You can have multiple receiving units plugged in wherever you like.
They use SCART sockets on the TV so you must have one of these.

It uses the 2.4 GHz frequency range for comms., so may get upset by microwaves or DECT phones, though mine all work fine together. Don't have a WI-FI so not sure if that would be affected.

I use mine for remote control and receiving of my TiVo pictures upstairs.
Transmission is digital and better than I'd get through co-ax.

The tivocommunity forum has some discussions on this, look under the UK section.

My local Tesco have some reasonable looking kits with 1 sender and 1 receiver for £40 at the moment.....

I, too, use the digisender, to send cable pictures to my set upstairs. Needed to buy an additional bit of kit to get the Pace box to change channel, don't know if they have now rectified this, but it still worked out a lot less than having an additional cable set top box. Only draw back, you can only watch the same cable channel upstairs as downstairs
