Can anyone recommend a reasonably long lasting tyre finish that leaves a satin type of finish as opposed to the high gloss ones that seem to proliferate. Prefer the more subdued effect of a satin finish, more akin to the look of a new tyre.:D

TurtleWax Extreme Nano-Tech tyre gel, leaves a satin finish, just don't apply too much.

Hi,

Another one worth a look is the Meguiars Endurance Tyre Gel.

If applied sparingly it looks good and lasts a reasonable amount of time. I've used it for quite a while and always been pleased with the finish.

If you use a liquid type, brush it on for a much better finish.

Different products finish differently on various makes of tyre.

Lots of products can have a glossier finish muted by a partial wipe down after application and before fully dry on the tyre.

Given we are in dryer weather the likes of PERL as mentioned is good and you can play around with dilution to get a finish to suit.

Nicest finish I've found of late is Swissvax Pneus but for out and out durability got to be Gyeon Tire albeit it's a little glossy on my Conti 5s.

Sounds like a pointless product and cost. How many people have been criticised for their lack of gloss on their tyres ?

*beggars belief* :D

Blackened tyres are the final part of my car cleaning cycle - they finish it off nicely, though I appreciate if you don't "get" that buzz that a properly cleaned car can give then it might seem pointless.

Thanks for the various recommendations. It would appear, if the various bumf is to be believed, that some of these products condition the rubber and prevent micro cracks in the surface which supposedly improves the life of the tyre. Comments on this aspect of tyre dressing, (or sarcasm) appreciated.:bannana:

My tyres never last long enough to worry about UV protection or micro-cracks!

I use tyre dressing simply because it completes the clean car look, as John says above.

I use Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing, very happy with the satin look and lasts quite well too.

Also use the autoglym, applied with a foam pad it leaves a good sheen.

One trick is to make sure your tyres are clean first.... i use (diluted) wheel cleaner to clean dirty tyres before applying the AG Instant Tyre Dressing.

For a Satin finish that doesn't fling I would recommend Gtechniq T1.

Clean tyres at the same time as wheels using water/shampoo mix along with a short bristled Nylon brush, dry the wheels as normal and allow the tyre to air dry.

For a Satin finish, apply one coat with the sponge applicator (or you can use the sponge back of a pan scourer, as I have for years ;) ), leave for 5 - 10 mins and wipe off any excess with an old microfibre OR apply some more for a Gloss finish.

It's supposed to contain additives that maintain the tyre as well as dirt/brake dust repellant to extend the life of the finish - I usually do it every 2nd wash.

Easy as....and no fling up your freshly cleaned paintwork :)

Products which are solvent based will degrade the rubber over time. They do however generally last longer on the tyre. Always a compromise.

Kiwi Boot polish works well for me :)

I use the Meguiars tyre gel and apply with their tyre gel applicator, had the bottle for years so it lasts well. I actually like the tyres to look shiny, just one of those things that finishes the car for me. That said it tones down a bit after a couple of days anyway.

For a matt finish I believe you can apply it then wipe it down with microfibre afterwards.
