Tyres

Just had new tyres fitted. Bought on line from Tyre Shopper UK, who had the best price for Goodyear Eagle F1s to include local fitting. Arranged for fitting at my local Halfords.
I also needed a TPM replaced so asked for that to be replaced.
When the car was ready I was told that the technichian had carried out a test and ALL FOUR TPMs needed to be replaced - including the one I had renewed earlier last summer.
The cost would be £100 = VAT - EACH , a total of £480 ! Needless to say they didn't get to fit them.

Never again will I go near Halfords for so much as a fuse !

What was their reasoning for the tpms change.??

They're £33 each at the tpms warehouse.

They simply claimed they 'wanted replacing'. I spent an hour in their reception and was able to hear the disgraceful 'upselling' that was ging on. one of the worst was 'Your battery is at just 75%, and with the cold weather you could have starting problems.' The lady customer agreed to a new battery at just over £250 plus VAT.

Disgusting tbh. Tpms can't even be tested afaik the battery pack is inside and can't even give you a voltage , it either works or it doesn't. Unless a handheld scanner can tell you something, ?? They tried selling me an engine additive whilst I had tyres fitted a while ago , to lower my emissions, I told the guy it's a euro 6 engine and not to talk stupid to me , it was £22 a bottle 250ml of some magic pixie dust. Some folks fell for it mind 😀. National tyres went downhill once Halfords bought them out , a name that's all about ££££ and nothing for the customer.

To be fair, when I had one TPM replaced, the fitter showed me the battery state of each one, on the hand held scanner. This was a local independent, not Halfords.
Two were fine, probably replaced by the last owner, the third was very low, and is likely to need replacing soon.

I recently suffered at the hands of National Tyres. I hadn't realised they were part of the Halfords Group and booked my car in for a 4-wheel alignment. When I collected the car they advised me that all wheels needed adjustment and the fronts were really bad. I was in a hurry to get to an appointment and left but noticed immediately that the steering wheel was off-centre by 2 or 3 degrees. I instantly regretted my decision to let them work on the car. I contacted an MB specialist in the next town, told them what had happened, and arranged to get the car into them as soon as possible. What they discovered was that the fronts were badly misaligned, no shock there and that the rears did need minor adjustment but had not been touched since leaving the factory. All the work was carried out and a full print out provided of the before and after settings. The steering wheel was returned to its intended straight-ahead position too. A lesson learned by me and reaffirmation that Halfords are best avoided.
