It was UK announced summer last year, just for the E350. Mine was on order, so I enquired - the saleman had never heard of it. My car was delivered in October with the 7 speed box. Since last July, if you spec a car on the German site 9G is available, but last time I checked it was still 7G in the UK brochure. What a crock of the malodourous stuff.
I dug a bit deeper and was told that 9G would allow a UK 4x4 E-Class. Apparently, the 7G has the FWD offtake on the wrong side of the box for RHD. That sounds a con as well, still waiting for it to be announced.
If you want to know what you're getting, spec a car on the German site and get the code for the 9G. Then, ask your dealer for a print of your order and check what gearbox code is shown.
