UK E36 AMG - Should it have a specific owner's guide?

Hi all, just got my new (80k) 1995 E36 AMG estate auto... wow.

Anyway, a quick one, it was supplied with an E320 estate users manual - which is kind of correct, I guess, but did MB/AMG supply more specific manuals/guides with their W124 cars?

This being 1 of 12 dealer supplied cars would I guess mean they are rare, but even so...

I'll be hankering after any original documentation I can order / buy !

thanks!

I always thought the instructions for AMG cars were

Left pedal stop. Right pedal go. Hold tight to the big wheel thing in front of you.

There is an additional E36 AMG suppliment, but the main owners handbook is that of the e320.

Aka$h beat me to it..

Look forward to pics - nice to have another 124 owner about.

No problems, no this is a genuine UK AMG/MB supplied factory car. I even have the orignial bill of sale "E36 Estate"... £59,755.01 ! Even comes with the mysterious AMG technology pack.

I did have an E320 about 6 years ago, then sold it as it got worth more than the loan... bad mistake. Now back where I like being.... holding onto that big round thing in front of me.. jabbing away at that LH pedal as the RH pedal was pushed a bit too far in...:)

Aha - does anyone's example they might have, have a part code? I know your will obviously be different, but knowing that these supplements may have had codes might just help me on my search for original documentation. Speaking of which, anyone know of a good source of parts only for AMG cars?

The suppliment is the same for the whole range, the saloon, coupe, cabrio and estate.

As for parts, everything asides from the engine is pretty much the same as a e320. The diff ratio is different and the modulating pressures on the gearbox are set differently but the box is the same. The suspension is the same that was offered on a e320 with AMG suspension, so can be sourced from MB still. Exhaust system is totally different, but a stainless steel one is probably the best way to go.

I know these cars quite well, if you need any info give me a shout.

Thanks, I certainly will! I guess my first and most important ask is the fact I'm on the lookout for a specialist who really *knows* these engines. Any suggestions? I'd like to get the car totally checked out with an honest report so I know what I'm dealing with in terms of short, medium & longer term issues (if any!). Any recommendations most welcome (I'm happy to move this question to the "good garage" forum if necessary ;-)

The other thing is - does your AMG supplement have an MB part code? I'd like to get my hands on this... plus any other original AMG/MB literature from 1995.

All the best & thanks again for the warm welcome!

What I mean't in my original unedited post, is that I thought to start with all AMGs were factory conversions, MB delivered a stock car to AMG and they did their thing - I believe Talbir's Hammer started life as a 230E. I'm not sure at which point AMG came 'in house'.. bet its on here somewhere.

I believe the C36 and the E36 were the first AMG/MB factory collaborations (i.e. from when MB officially took AMG in house) - that's what I've read in various magazines. On these cars, you get one bill from MB for an E36 or C36 car...

Before then, yes, AMG converted the cars after taking them directly from the factory - essentially you'd have two bills as a customer, one for the stock car from MB and the other from AMG.. as they took it direct from the factory and added *whatever* you wanted from their mods available.

That's how I see things in the AMG/MB timeline anyway!

My C36 has a separate AMG manual (more of an addendum really) to go with the c280 MB manual. Unfortunately it doesn't tell you much, although I do now know that I'm not allowed to tow anything!!

I'll check for a part number tonight if you like, it may give you a clue to finding the one for the E36?

Wasn't it the W210 E36 that was the first, along with the C36?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your W124 E36 would have been when they were still separate.

My C43 is covered in the same manual as all other C-Clas models, I don't get a different manual like Callahan's C36. Seems that they're losing their exclusivity as the AMG's get more mass produced. I'm not allowed to tow anything either, but I have seen a C43 with a towbar fitted so there are ways around it...

I've read somewhere that the C and E36 were the first full collaborations too, maybe on the AMG website.

Out of interest, I'd quite like to see a caravan being towed at 150 or more by an AMG, just not mine :D

The C36 manual I have is called 'C 36 AMG Additional Instructions' and the numbers on the back are 202 584 27 96 Bestell-Nr. 6515 6023 36

No idea if this will be of any use, but I hope so.

The car is at a friends place at the moment, Ill get you the part number for the w124 e36 booklet. Although Im not sure if they will sitll sell it.

Re someone to look after it....where in the country do you live....nice motor by the way!

If anybody wants to acquire another one of the twelve then contact me....a guy in the same town to me has one of the twelve and is prepared to sell his and I can pass your details on.

Needs a bit of work as the gearbox is slipping, but it still goes like stink when you put your foot down.

Car is silver with black leather.

Not allowed to tow? eh? Why on earth is that? (I was going to need to put a removable towbar on the E36!)

Yup a partcode would be good to see if it exists... cheers!
