**Oops, spot the typo in message heading!!**

Hi,

My dad owns a petrol V6 Vito and has been having a few problems with it lately, like:

- Battery Warning light sometimes illuminating

- Strong smell of petrol and intermittently the revs racing up and down on startup (if it starts at all!)

- Intermitent Auto box problem whereas it will not change into 4th

Apparently it stalled the other day, and would not start for a while, finally it started and he drove it home...that was the last time it ran, now it just wont start at all.

When he started having problems he took it to an 'Indy' who retrieved the following fault codes:

p1491
p1010
p1319

Apparently no-one (including the chap that retrieved them) so far knows what these codes mean, his local Benz dealer has had to send them to Germany!??

Its a long shot - but if anyone does know what these codes mean we would be happy to hear from you!!

Cheers
Dave

Is this a new-shape Vito 123 (very rare beast)? If so, isn't it under warranty? Why would he be taking it to an independant?

AFAIK there wasn't a V6 version of the previous shape Vito, in the UK anyway.

Just got an update from him - the engine turns over but will not fire/start, it apparently stinks of petrol.

BTB 500 > I have no idea about the shapes as far as the 'V' class goes - I believe that it was hard to get hold of this version:

1998 V Class
2.8 V6
MPV version?

Cheers
Dave

Ah you're talking about a V280, that's not technically a Vito.

The engine is a VW one, their old VR6 unit. So if you are really stuck a good VW indi might even be able to help?!

Cheers - i will look on the BBA REMAN site under the VW fault codes..see if maybe that offers anything!

Well V280s were relatively rare (and didn't have a very good reputation, I'm afraid), but an MB dealer should still be able to sort it out ... for a price.

I have rebuilt one of those engines in the V-class. I know them well and know they are a nightmare to diagnose engine faults.

I can help if needed (see PM)
