Hi!

Ok, so I've decided to change few bulbs - at the back for regplate and for the vanity mirrors. I'd like to replace them with some ULTRA bright bulbs (LED).
Can someone recommend any? Where to buy?
Any other precautions?

Many thanks!
Chris

They will bring on the bulb warning light.

As far as buying them I would think any car parts shop or ebay.

Hi Dieselman,

Thanks :) But tbh, I was expecting something like:

"you need to buy bulbs XXX so you will not get warning light" :) I know that normal LED will cause those problems and I know where to buy standard bulbs...

Still, your info might be new to some people, so thanks for clarifying that in your post!

On the other hand it can't be that hard to cheat the system and fit LEDs (altered) drawing same amount of power as standard bulbs?

Cheers
Chris

A resistor will fool the warning lamp circuit.

As DM mentions you need to fit resistors to fool the system... I looked into this a while ago.

Problem is, the old bulbs are 5W or 10W, which means the resistors you will fit will need to dissipate that much energy (in heat) as the leds use a TINY amount of electricity (the largest I've seen so far is 1W).

This is turn means a large resistor with an even larger heatsink - many sold on eBay are designed to be dot-welded to your car's bodywork so that the car's metal acts as a heatsink.

I ended up giving up on it and living with the bulb warning light...

I wonder what the maximum resistance value would be that would defeat the bulb warning sysem.?

Roll on the day that MB becomes enlightened & uses LEDs across its range, or at least puts a cluster LED option in like the bi-xenon cluster option which accounts for the lower current draw!

Will there be a bulb warning even for less improtant interior lights, or is this just for external lights?

I'm going to replace vanity mirrors and possibly puddle lights ;) with LEDs. :)

Will see how it looks!
Anyone interested in pictures?
Cheers
Chris
