I am struggling with my new (to me ) 2010 S212 E350 as the driver's seat is starting to kill me - it's really uncomfortable and I just can't get it comfortable.
I think the passenger one is much better so I was wondering if the bases to the seats (the bit that i'm struggling with) as swappable (i.e. can I swap the base of the driver and passenger seats?)

I had exactly that issue with my 2008 C219. So had the foam seat base replaced with a new one from MB - used a local car trimming place to do the work and all done for £230. The old one had signs of the foam collapsing so was due for a replacement - 160K miles of bums on the seat takes it toll. Passenger side is fine.

I am not sure if the seat cushions themselves are interchangeable or not, but either way you can't swap them, because the passenger side will have the Front Passenger Seat Occupancy Sensor (aka Sensor mat), while the drivers side won't have it, and swapping them around will result in a permanent SRS error displayed on the dash (and an MOT failure).

This. Or a second-hand seat cushion of eBay, if the donor car can be verified to have low mileage.

To avoid that you would need to swap just the foam bases which means stripping the seat base apart at which point you might as well replace the worn foam.

I recently changed my Artico seat covers ( C class W205) for a leather set. The covers , including the foam and seat heating were exactly the same for the driver and passenger side , the passenger seat occupancy sensors are not attached to the covers so a straight swop was possible. IMG_2565A.JPG

that would be an issue but look at videos online i am not sure the occupancy sensor is in the seat base of the frame it sits on - anyone know?

here is a video of the same (i thiink) seat I have being removed click here

Try tipping the seat base up at the front edge to the maximum and down at the back edge of the seat base . This should support your thigh weight better and relive some of the butt bone pressure .

i've tried every combination of seat positions to no avail. It feels like something hard is under the seat at each side where my buttocks make contact with it. i've read in another threar there are some wires that run through the padding and I suspect this is what I am feeling. I think I am going to have to take the seat base out and have a look. It looks fairly straghtforward to remove it

It's between the seat 'skin' (leather or Artico) and the foam base inside. You might be able to strip both seat cushions and swap only the foam bit inside - I don't know.

I’m guessing you are not built for comfort then buddy ;)

As previous photo, on the C class, the sensor is attached to the frame , and the foam and seat cover just sit on top of it.I doubt if it's between the cover and foam as you'd feel it under the cover.

I did swap the base foam and cover on my vito and worked well.
