I have an early W124 230 TE on a D Reg which does not have the plastic door and sill covers fitted that later W124’s have.
The body colour is 735 Astral silver. The bumpers and sills are a dark grey which matches the trim strips on the doors etc.
I have researched online, and spoken to my paint supplier, and there are three colours listed, but all seem to be metallic, and the grey on the bumpers appears to be a solid colour.
The options listed are atlas grey (much too light), 7171 stratos grey, and 7175 Matt grey.
I have attached a picture of the car, and the data plate. Hopefully some knowledgeable person will be able to decipher the code? All the main dealers seem to be shut at the moment, otherwise a phone call could solve the problem. Any ideas? Many thanks

I might be wrong, but I seem to remember hearing that the early w124 just had 100% black plastic bumpers and trims, they weren't painted.

Somebody with a EPC account probably could tell you using your VIN

They are definately grey, with black rubbing strips. Good point on the VIN - I should have included that...

Thankyou for your help. 747 Granite Grey is a metallic colour and not listed as used on that model year? Maybe an earlier variation of granite grey?
I have attached the VIN plate if anyone has an EPC account please? It’s definately a dark Matt grey finish. I just need a code, then I can have the colour mixed and matting agent added to suit. All help is much appreciated!

Acording to someone on Peach parts forum (USA) the bumpers were Alto Gray (MB paint code 7700) and the bumper impact strips were Deep Dark Gray (code 7167)

Thanks optimusprime - I’ll give it a go with the granite grey. I did post the data plate at the start of the thread, and then the VIN plate at a later date. Do you know if 747 is the correct code? Sorry to keep pestering - I’ve painted it once already, and I just wanted to get it right this time!
Thanks also to ChipChop for your input. I have checked out 7700 alto grey, and I believe this is suitable for later Sacco panelled cars with body paint codes 040, 122, and 199.

JimBe dont go off half cocked make sure yourself first. After reading on here ,,i am having secont thoughts as to weather my colour is right .But i was told from a chap on the forum that had just rebuilt his W124 and used Granit Grey .

I make DB190 to be Graphite grey looking at my paint chart, which looks about the right shade! We could be onto something here...

This is copied from another from but it looks like stratus grey 7177 good with 735.

If written to my local dealer in Spain but not sure when they might reply.

Yes and for the saco panels for the paint mix , they have 10% matting agent added to the paint to reduce the shine .And 10% Flexi Agent to stop splits and cracking .I have 2 paint codes and the codes are nothing like the one that you have above .

Optimusprime - I think the DB is irrelevant - it just seems to be the way the colour code is written on the charts...

I’m still unconvinced I have the right colour...

All Daimler-Benz paint codes are prefixed DB - that is how the factory designate them , always have . 3rd party suppliers may not use the prefix .

A quick update to let you know I have solved the problem. After much deliberation and failed research, I removed the lower boot trim (which blends with the rear bumper) and took it to my local paint supplier who did a wonderful job and found an exact match. The hex code of the colour is 28-66800. I painted it as a basecoat and finished it with a Matt laquer. I hopes this helps anyone else looking to repaint an early w124 without Sacco panels.
