Clk
Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum, need advice on a problem I have.
So recently I bought a 2008 clk, about a month ago. I will try provide as much detail as possible, here goes.

First issue the car was juddering when braking, had found out that the brake discs were warped, so changed the discs and brake pads, Mercedes parts. Problem sorted.

But today I was on my way to Wales when I felt vibration on the car, when on the motorway, under no braking what so ever, driving at around 80mph.

Brakes were hot and some very light smoke from rear left wheel. Took it to mechanic, he had said the front right calliper is sticky and that there was oil leakage.

Lastly the front callipers are a upgrade 4 pot I believe. Some advice would greatly be appreciated. Thank you

Oh and it was evident that the front right wheel was substantially harder to turn then the others.

I would think the corner that is smoking is the corner that has the problem!
What did the mechanic do?

Just gave a quick turn and a check over, he didn't feel there was a problem there.

So the front right caliper is seized on! or one of the pistons anyway!

Looks that way, so would I have to completely change it? Or could the calliper be reconditioned.

I'm sure it could be reconditioned but that would probably involve sending it off and being without for a few days. Its wierd it happend after fitting discs and pads. Did all the pistons go back ok?

Ye everything went back ok. It's weird that the front right calliper has malfunctioned after only 64,000 on a Merc, but these things happen, I think cost me around £250!

I'm still confused. The smoke came from the rear left, but the front right was binding :dk:

Parking brake adjustment?

My advice, take it to a Garage. Ask them to do a brake test in the MOT roller tester and investigate/quote what needs doing.

Not sure I'm confused is well, when I pulled over onto the hard shoulder, saw smoke from rear left, but the mechanic ruled out any problem with it.

Ok will do thank you for the advice, defiantly the best thing to do, that way hopefully I can get to the bottom of the problem.

Make sure its a different mechanic then. They shouldn't be smoking unless youve given them a serious workout or its very wet weather, but even then not just one of them.

Like I say, the Mot roller tester will pick up whats working or not, or whats sticking on. Its either a fault somewhere with the brakes or the traction control is holding a brake on.

As its brakes it is not worth messing around with, it just needs to go to a proper mechanic.:thumb:

Ye I will take it to a Mercedes specialist, I sure they will know. Better to be safe than sorry, again thank you for the advice.

Happy to help, keep us posted with the problem!

A smoking rear brake could be the handbrake either partially on or not coming off properly.

The first thing I'd be changing is the mechanic

Defiantly, I will be taking it to TM motors, heard good things about them.

Would they check this problem I am having in a service (B).

So took it to TM motors, and it was the lower arm rod, creating the vibration and the calliper was leaking so had to change that. All sorted now and it's running really smooth as I've jus had a service B done.
