Used AMG with undocumented Ghost Immobiliser fitted

Can't get in , in the time it takes the police to arrive !? Do you live next door to a police station that is actually manned and open or are you a member of the royal family ?

I hope you are correct in what you say , but I myself have less faith in a quick Police response where I live . Especially if a grown man calls them saying he is hearing noises outside his house.

Like I said solid wooden doors front, rear and throughout the house, anti-bump anti-snap five point locks on the outside. It will take an awful lot of time and effort to get in here and get to me.

Who said they will come through the doors ? How secure are your roof tiles that cover a bit of felt and then a sliver of plasterboard ? A good wind can blow them off , thats how strong.

Apologies if you have that covered.

How strong the house locks are matters not if you have windows made of glass! I'm just realistic to know that if a professional thief wants your car he will take it. It won't be behind your gates etc when its being used...and the speed these guys can take pretty much anything with forward radar (not just Alfa...this is pretty much how most Range Rovers and high end German cars are taken) means that broad daylight is not an issue.

Really?? Has this ever happened?

This method impersonates a key. With a Ghost fitted they still would not be able to start the car.

As for the windows, if they want to smash through double glazing and pretty much wake the whole neighbourhood up with the commotion it would cause, not least from my house alarm which has a direct connection to a control centre, then let them expose themselves while I hide behind the solid wooden doors in my house and wait for the cavalry.

I am in very similar situation, just bought W212 E63 and only found out that it has ghost when I went to collect it.

No paperwork provided as to what the system actually is or where it was installed

And due to me not being used to the ghost, sometimes I do it wrong and it just causes car to throw alarm, ignition and transmission codes when scanned afterwards.

I am actually considering trying to get approved installer to take the ghost out of the car, as in my opinion it's good when the car is parked in public car park or something like that.
But while it's on my drive, it's actually just another invitation for any potential thief to try get in the house. I'd rather if anyone tries to steal it be successful at it, and not put family at risk but hey that's only my opinion.

That was the main reason I went with Pandora. In a threatening situation, you can hand them the keys and tags, allow them to get away and then at a safe distance you can remotely shut down the engine via app, web or a phone call. It's got gps tracking, so you can see the precise location and collect the car. You also get impact notifications, system status, current temperature readings both internal and external, voltage readings, GPS location etc etc 😀

Some strange posting in here for sure.

But back on topic …. what does “undocumented” mean? Did the previous owner not declare the Ghost to the selling dealership? If so how does the car get started? Or did the previous owner sell the car to the dealership having put the car in valet mode? Or did they provide the full code? Had they binned all paperwork related to the Ghost system they’d had fitted?

Raises questions about the selling dealership in my opinion.

It all sounds very suss to me,the dealer is at faultier not getting the code walkaway from it...in fact RUN

For the record I helped remove the device from one of my previous cars and its hardly challenging so a dealership would be able to get it out easy but I bet he's worried about it voiding the warranty.

While we are ending the subject , if you have twin 'French' patio doors with external handles you may as well leave them unlocked because they can be opened in seconds and without causing much noise .

Unless you have a Patlock fitted on the inner handles. Top Tip

A lot of insurers won't provide contents cover if you have these

That's interesting....I do have those sort of handles....will look into that. Im quite handy with a set of lock picks....so most Yales type locks are not much of a challenge! When I was a kid watching films I was always interested in how the baddies used lock picks.....so I bought a set and taught myself how. These days there are loads of how to videos online!!!.........so anyone can learn with a few hours practise!!

Lock picks are for the movies ( I too have a set) but a quick look at the Patlock website (video) will show how the scum have probably never heard of lock picking :p.

Not saying the device they sell is the 'be all and end all' of patio door safety but its a simple device that strengthens the weakest point of entry in many UK households. I say weakest point because they are physically weak and often hidden from view at the back of the house.

PS . I do not work for Patlock , but someone I am loosely acquainted with once did time for home burglary.

Will look at their site. 👍

Lockpicking lawyer is one of my favourites.

Mercedes Dealer is trying to get documentation for the Ghost Immobiliser From previous owner/Autowatch Ghost manufacturer.
Does anyone have experience of this eg how easy is it to register new owner and get all Ghost instructions and Emergency Reset Card ?
Also understandably the Ghost Immobiliser itself is excluded from the AMG 2 year used car warranty, however the dealer reassures me any warranty complications eg for any car electrical problems is very unlikely.
Any feedback appreciated.
Did the dealer come back to you regarding any docs or info about the ghost that's in your car?

Mercedes dealer has decided to get Autowatch specialist to remove Ghost Immobiliser.

Interesting discussion. Ghost does have anti-hijack but in UK is off by default so just switch it on👍 Ghost stops cars being easily nicked, nuff said. No system is unbreakable, and as for JLR and security. well their cars don’t need security surely, they don’t work often enough to be a worry

That'll negate any warranty on the car...(if they document it of course)
