My friends ML has no phone and no GPS installed. He wants to go to COMAND but has no aerial installed.

After reading several reports on the poor ML OEM signal strength with the OEM roof setup I wanted to look at alternatives.

Has anyone tried it and would they like to make any suggestions ?

I'm not sure that you can better the ML OEM position of a GPS antenna being on the Roof , Ditto Phone . It just has to be better than inside the car surely?

Taking into consideration there is no aerial on the roof then I suppose its not going to be much good. Likewise there is no phone. Otherwise it would be a snack.

??????????????????????????

My ML has the roof mount combined GPS /GSM antenna - it works fine. That would be my perfered location. Whether or not your friend has a GPS or phone at the moment seems irrelevant.

Did you realise that the facelift ML has a hole already in the roof . Just pop put the grommet & screw in the antenna - the wiring is there too - just plugs in. Look behind the head unit in the car & you wil find the gps & phone leads just waiting to be connected. The phone stuff needs a loom & control box conecting into some existing wiring under the drivers seat. Plus running of the fibre optics back to comand.

Not sure if this prewiring holds for prefacelift models though.
